Episode Transcript
[00:00:04] Speaker A: Frizz's tiny Christmas pajamas. Riley's adult Christmas pajamas. My matching Christmas pajamas. Shaking the dog. Shaking the dog.
[00:00:16] Speaker B: I'm sorry.
[00:00:18] Speaker A: I didn't really shake her. Just a wiggle. I just wiggled.
[00:00:21] Speaker B: It was a wiggle.
[00:00:22] Speaker A: The outfit, for those of you that are listening, only think of, like, a 1940s, early 50s male swimming trunks.
Plaid, red plaid. I thought it was really cute. It makes her look like an acrobat. Yeah, it is a cute acrobat suit. It's a plaid. Oh, my God.
What's that? What's it called? If it's not eraser back, but it's a racer front because it's really scoops. You get a little side boob action here. Rizzo.
[00:00:53] Speaker B: Almost all the. Like, if she. It would be against the nip.
[00:00:57] Speaker A: It's tracking with the nips. You cozy, my love?
[00:01:00] Speaker B: Yeah, we're all cozy in our pajamas.
[00:01:02] Speaker A: Riz is cozy. I'm cozy.
[00:01:04] Speaker B: You feeling cozy? Feeling cozy.
[00:01:05] Speaker A: Co host. Higgins.
[00:01:06] Speaker B: Co host.
Oh, Wilson.
[00:01:09] Speaker A: Welcome to the end of the year episode. Yay, Riley. Riz, everybody. Riley. Made from scratcherooni hot cocoa.
[00:01:19] Speaker B: I did special hot cocoa.
[00:01:22] Speaker A: Special adult hot cocoa.
[00:01:23] Speaker B: You do have to be able to. Cheers.
Riz.
[00:01:26] Speaker A: My candy cane.
[00:01:28] Speaker B: No, it had to be broken.
We don't have to talk about it.
We don't have to talk about that. We tried to make it work, and it's not working.
Whoa.
[00:01:40] Speaker A: That is a very delicious, very adult hot cocoa.
[00:01:45] Speaker B: You can taste the adult.
Yeah.
[00:01:49] Speaker A: Oh, that's very good.
[00:01:50] Speaker B: The last time I did this actually was in July with Jigga and Courtney. Jigga text me. He's like, do you want to come over for adult hot chocolate in a half hour? And it was like 9:30 at that point. And I was like, yes, I do.
[00:02:05] Speaker A: I do.
[00:02:05] Speaker B: And play Mario Kart games.
[00:02:06] Speaker A: I do want that.
[00:02:07] Speaker B: And that's what we did.
[00:02:08] Speaker A: Fantastic.
[00:02:09] Speaker B: It was wonderful.
[00:02:09] Speaker A: Gorgeous.
Well, is this what you had?
[00:02:12] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:02:12] Speaker A: Riz is knocked out. I think that the flannel onesie on her has really raised, restricting her chest.
[00:02:19] Speaker B: So maybe she.
[00:02:20] Speaker A: And it raised her body temperature so much that she's instant nap. She's like.
[00:02:25] Speaker B: She hates the leg parts of it. Are we going to talk about her the whole time? We might.
This episode.
[00:02:31] Speaker A: I don't have anything else prepared.
[00:02:33] Speaker B: Okay, great. That's fine. I do have things prepared. So do you want me to start and then.
[00:02:37] Speaker A: Please.
[00:02:38] Speaker B: That will take us somewhere?
[00:02:39] Speaker A: Oh, my God, yes, please.
[00:02:40] Speaker B: Okay, wonderful.
[00:02:41] Speaker A: Going to take another sip while you're doing that.
[00:02:42] Speaker B: Okay. And while that's happening, Congrats We've done five whole years of podcast. Officially, we're finishing our fifth year.
[00:02:52] Speaker A: Watch that back. I just gave 19 expressions in like two seconds.
She's drinking the liquid off the cup.
[00:03:00] Speaker B: Of course.
[00:03:01] Speaker A: How does that make you feel?
[00:03:03] Speaker B: It feels great. It feels appropriate. It does feel like we've been doing it for five years. It doesn't feel like only. My God. We've been doing it for a long time.
Actually, it feels like longer than five years to me.
[00:03:16] Speaker A: I don't have a grip on. On that.
[00:03:17] Speaker B: On the time.
It just is crazy cuz when this was started, I was in Arizona, so that feels like a lifetime. Really long ago. I get that versus the LA time. And also, we've only been doing video for two and a half of those.
[00:03:33] Speaker A: Yes. That really does change things.
[00:03:37] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:03:39] Speaker A: For me, the podcast, my memory of the podcast was like my closet.
[00:03:42] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:03:43] Speaker A: And then video.
[00:03:44] Speaker B: Right.
[00:03:44] Speaker A: And the gap in between. I don't. Could have been four years, could have been six months. I really don't have a grasp for how long that was. But yeah, those are my two podcast eras in my memories. Like me talking, surrounded by my hats.
[00:03:57] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:03:58] Speaker A: And then us setting up lighting. Right. Perpetually. And moving my couch back and forth and back and forth and back and forth and back and forth.
[00:04:06] Speaker B: It's true. You could just keep it over there if you wanted to.
[00:04:10] Speaker A: Weird, weird way.
[00:04:12] Speaker B: It's not that hard. We figured out the routine. Yeah.
[00:04:14] Speaker A: We've got it.
[00:04:14] Speaker B: We have it. Have it.
So in that I am asking for five moments that stick out to you. Slash, favorite thing. Five favorite things that have come out of the podcast.
[00:04:26] Speaker A: The snore score. I really love tracking snore scores during episodes and that we didn't have before we had Riz.
[00:04:33] Speaker B: No, it's true. We didn't have Riz the whole time we had the podcast. She was. She's a new addition at the same time that we did video. You got her the week we did that.
I know.
[00:04:44] Speaker A: I also just noticed that our colors today for the podcast are blue, pink, and green.
It's a very seaweed Christmas.
[00:04:51] Speaker B: It's a very seaweed Christmas.
[00:04:52] Speaker A: Okay, so that's number one. The addition of the snore score reminds me of In Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, Edgar Wright has been front of mind lately. And in that movie, there's a pee bar because Scott Pilgrim goes pee. And you see the pee bar draining and our delightful little snore square pop up. Reminds me of the pee bar.
[00:05:14] Speaker B: It's going up right now.
[00:05:16] Speaker A: She's so chilling.
[00:05:17] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:05:18] Speaker A: Okay.
Wow, this is really hard.
[00:05:21] Speaker B: Oh, I'm sorry.
Foreign.
[00:05:25] Speaker A: It's hard to not recall the first episode which was Marty.
[00:05:28] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:05:28] Speaker A: And it was really cool. The space was so raw. We didn't have anything on the walls.
[00:05:33] Speaker B: No.
[00:05:34] Speaker A: But we just had like homie talk for extended period of time. And he's so good at this. And. Yeah. That I will. I'll remember that one forever.
[00:05:44] Speaker B: It's such a great episode.
[00:05:45] Speaker A: It's such a good episode.
[00:05:46] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:05:49] Speaker A: Both of his episodes are great because he was also in the audio only.
[00:05:52] Speaker B: Version with his birds.
[00:05:54] Speaker A: So funny in his little wicker basket egg chair. Outside in the silence. I'm thinking of like 45 of them and I could could say any one of them.
Can we cut this silence a little bit?
[00:06:08] Speaker B: I'm gonna cut the silence.
No, we're leaving the silence at.
[00:06:21] Speaker A: I do really love our kind of recent Full Circle Boys episode because we choreographed in the episode and I.
I talk to dancers and choreographers all the time and we've never danced on the podcast until that episode. And we had to really restructure the jig to get that functional.
[00:06:41] Speaker B: To get six people in. Six people plus.
[00:06:44] Speaker A: Well, six guests.
[00:06:45] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:06:46] Speaker A: Plus me. Lights. We had to add a camera. We had to borrow lenses. We were borrowing gear. Yeah, I like that. That one was unusual. And that we had to expand our capacity for, you know, we had to take a big bite for that and.
[00:07:02] Speaker B: I definitely think room for more of that in the future. We've definitely been limited in our single guest format and I'm excited to hopefully add larger panels in the future.
[00:07:12] Speaker A: 100%.
[00:07:13] Speaker B: Even though it does require more couch moving energy. But we're getting stronger.
[00:07:19] Speaker A: Are also taking on a new space.
[00:07:21] Speaker B: It's true.
[00:07:22] Speaker A: We're about to have a Las Vegas branch listener viewer. We're expanding.
So the podcast is going to be able to be as big as we want it. We can have 14 guests in that living room. It's big.
[00:07:32] Speaker B: It is big.
[00:07:34] Speaker A: Obviously having the Seaweed sisters on is epic. Getting to talk to two best friends at one time is ridiculous. And I had them both individually as well. That's sick.
[00:07:44] Speaker B: And I hope for round three.
[00:07:46] Speaker A: Yes, please.
You know what? Another outstanding moment. Speaking of having larger groups, in response to some social media heat, we also had an episode via Zoom, which has been. We really did pivot hard to in person format.
[00:08:01] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:08:01] Speaker A: And we had a nine person Zoom that brought me to tears multiple times and left me absolutely exhausted because it was that fulfilling and emotional. Emotional. And that episode is a proud, proud moment. Yeah. For many reasons, but I really. That stands out hugely.
[00:08:24] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:08:25] Speaker A: There's, like. There's a lot. Right. There's a lot of, like, my close friends. This season. We also did a lot of strangers, like, people that I did not know so well. Some people that I'm meeting for the first time on the podcast, like jb.
Who else did I meet for the first time?
[00:08:43] Speaker B: Bryn.
[00:08:44] Speaker A: Bryn. Nicole.
[00:08:47] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:08:47] Speaker A: So cool. Kind of mixed bag on that front also.
But I could not. I would. I would really be remiss if I left out the most mentioned person on the podcast. Probably.
No. Is it Marty? Who's the most mentioned person? My mom. Mm.
[00:09:04] Speaker B: Mm.
[00:09:05] Speaker A: Riz.
[00:09:06] Speaker B: No.
[00:09:06] Speaker A: Well, yes.
[00:09:07] Speaker B: No.
[00:09:07] Speaker A: Who?
[00:09:09] Speaker B: Now I'm forgetting his name. What's your acting coach?
[00:09:10] Speaker A: Lauren. Oh, Gary Imhoff. Nice. Okay.
[00:09:13] Speaker B: But she's second.
[00:09:14] Speaker A: Tony Basil has to be up there on my most mentioned people on the podcast list. And I feel like my entire podcast career was leading up to interviewing her.
[00:09:23] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:09:23] Speaker A: And it was stressful. I was nervous.
She was particular.
As she should be and as she is.
[00:09:29] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:09:30] Speaker A: And we worked really hard to make something great. And I'm so proud of that episode. And she loved it too. She said it was her favorite interview she ever did.
[00:09:40] Speaker B: We get that a lot. Not. Not to brag.
[00:09:43] Speaker A: Yeah, please brag a little bit about. We.
[00:09:45] Speaker B: We do get a lot of guest feedback.
[00:09:47] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:09:47] Speaker B: That it's their favorite interview that they've ever done.
I do think that's largely up to you.
[00:09:54] Speaker A: Thank you.
[00:09:55] Speaker B: You're welcome.
[00:09:55] Speaker A: I think we create a pretty cozy environment.
[00:09:58] Speaker B: Environment. Because it's.
[00:09:59] Speaker A: Because it's literally my house. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And because we're talking about what lights us up. Like, whenever somebody sits in this chair, I'm not talking to them about, like, their latest project or a thing that's like a skeleton in their closet. I'm like, no. What lights you up? What are you on fire about? This is what is exciting for me. And once you get going on that.
[00:10:19] Speaker B: Easy to keep talking.
[00:10:20] Speaker A: Easy, Easy. Man, this is delicious. Coco. We should. We want to make our guests feel cozy and happy. This is it. Right, Right. We could also put them in a. In a flannel onesie and they'd be relaxed right at home.
[00:10:32] Speaker B: Yeah. We're doing. Doing matching PJs this time.
[00:10:34] Speaker A: Yeah. We look really cute. Last year, end of year wrap up. We got schmancy.
[00:10:39] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:10:39] Speaker A: We were dolled up. And I. That was awesome, too. I was doing my eyeliner very differently at that time. Viewer. If you're watching this. Let me know what you think. Yeah, I was connecting the under eyelid. It was a lot.
[00:10:50] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:10:51] Speaker A: Okay. Your five favorites. Go.
[00:10:52] Speaker B: Oh, my five favorites.
I will have to say like a branch of the podcast is the wimcom Community. There is like I can't even count on my fingers how many people I've met and I know and I cherish because of that community.
And really awesome.
[00:11:11] Speaker A: This is a great plug by the way.
[00:11:12] Speaker B: Thank you.
[00:11:13] Speaker A: Thank you.
[00:11:13] Speaker B: We have some new things going on if you want to tell the people. Oh, I have to say, I'll say it. Okay, great.
[00:11:19] Speaker A: So up until now, the Words that Move Me Community is both supporters of the podcast and supporters of self career clarity. So I It is a coaching community. We coach a lot, but that's not all that we do. The first tier of membership is $5 a month. That is simply for people who love the podcast and want to help me keep doing it.
[00:11:37] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:11:38] Speaker A: The second tier is $12 a month for people who've been in it forever, $15 a month for newbies. And what that tier gets is a daily Creative pre.
[00:11:48] Speaker B: Daily Creative pre.
[00:11:49] Speaker A: A daily creative preempt.
A monthly playlist, a community access 24. 7. In our Instagram community, we have a secret channel, Channer Channel.
[00:11:59] Speaker B: What the fuck?
[00:12:00] Speaker A: Take me out of this podcast.
We have a secret channel that's just for Widomcom and we sit in there and chat with each other and celebrate wins. We also have a lesson of the month, which is a pre taped lesson from me of a thing that I'm learning.
[00:12:14] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:12:14] Speaker A: And it's such the truth. And this is why the podcast is my favorite thing. That anytime you teach something is an opportunity to learn it better yourself. So don't get it twisted, friends. I'm doing the lesson of the month for me.
[00:12:26] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:12:26] Speaker A: But I do find in our group coaching that so many of us are going through the same thing.
[00:12:32] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:12:32] Speaker A: At the same time. And when you see it reflected at you through someone else, you can see it differently. Going through a lot of the things that we need to deal with by yourself is really hard. So the words that Move Me Community is a good place to have to be surrounded by mirrors and to get support.
Which brings us to keys.
The pivotal. Well, two pivotal shifts in this new phase of Words that Move Me Community. The first one is Keys to the creative castle. They are 12 once per month, 12 interactive PDFs that are meant to be at a glance, kept in your photo album or in your files app on your phone so that you can deal with big mile marker, career defining moments like making big decisions, dealing with imposter syndrome, receiving critical feedback, giving critical feedback, making your own work yourself, getting headshots, auditioning.
These are 12 of the things that I coach on the most. And I have whittled down into really digestible interactive pages that I think are gonna really change the game for a lot of people.
So that's what the second tier, the daily doers get. And now our top, top tier. In addition to all that that I just mentioned, they get two monthly coaching calls, group coaching, which I do think is.
I love one on one coaching. I have two coaches right now and I'm loving getting one on one coached. But something about a group environment. When you can watch somebody be coached on the shit that you're going through, you see it through new eyes, you learn it a different way. I love group coaching.
And now also, it's the first time and I'm really curious to see how this goes. I think it's going to be awesome.
Once per month you can submit a piece of your work. Be that class footage, your reel, your website, your Instagram feed, a letter to your agent, a new concept, a new concept, video, whatever you want. Submit to me for critical feedback. And once a month I will give you critical feedback on your work. I came upon the idea for this change during class recently at ML and I was like.
We were going across the floor and I was noticing, oh, somebody is tucking their chin. When they spot. They must have had long hair at some point or they've developed this habit of like tucking the chin. And I gave them the note and they had never heard this before and they were like, oh my God, you're so right. I. They like watched themselves do it and they were like, oh my gosh, yes, I'm gonna fix that.
[00:15:00] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:15:00] Speaker A: And I was like, dang. I am not one to give do's and don'ts and yeses and nos and criticism is not my nature when I teach and certainly not when I coach. It's just not the job of a coach. But I do find a lot of my community looking for that, looking for the thing that they can't see, looking for the pill that might be tough to swallow in the moment, but that ultimately will give them a different point of view on their craft and help them get better at making shit.
So that's what we're doing come 2026. I'm jacked about it.
[00:15:34] Speaker B: Yay.
[00:15:36] Speaker A: Okay, so widom calm. That's number one.
[00:15:37] Speaker B: Okay, so that's one. It's great. I thought of this question, but I didn't think about mine.
[00:15:41] Speaker A: Have you looked at your candy cane yet?
[00:15:43] Speaker B: It's gone. Mine completely melted.
[00:15:45] Speaker A: Oh, my God. This is so much fun.
It broke.
[00:15:51] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:15:51] Speaker A: It's like I've never had candy before.
Or adult beverages, which I haven't.
[00:15:56] Speaker B: Right.
I will say a second one that's also kind of a sidebar to the podcast. Life is our post record dinner debrief, either at Stan's or at Crave.
[00:16:12] Speaker A: Crave. Sushi.
[00:16:13] Speaker B: Crave Sushi Ventura. It's the one for me, especially their happy hour deal. Get into it.
[00:16:20] Speaker A: Yo. Salmon collar for. What is it, seven bucks or something crazy.
[00:16:25] Speaker B: It's a giant piece.
[00:16:25] Speaker A: A giant piece of salmon with a good fatty wells. Oh, so good.
[00:16:29] Speaker B: Oh, it's perfect.
[00:16:30] Speaker A: So glad you brought that up.
[00:16:31] Speaker B: Yeah. And I just love the. That routine and getting to debrief about what we learned and.
[00:16:38] Speaker A: And we're exhausted and we're hungry and we're not mean to each other, which I love.
[00:16:43] Speaker B: No.
Sometimes quiet, but that's a.
[00:16:46] Speaker A: That's a symbol of love. It's true, deep love. If you can have a meal together and not be talking.
[00:16:51] Speaker B: Right.
That's the one.
[00:16:53] Speaker A: It's a keeper.
[00:16:54] Speaker B: Yep.
[00:16:55] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:16:55] Speaker B: I will say, like, getting invited into the interviews because for the first year, I. Oh, yeah. Wasn't a part of them. But then once I started editing them, it was like, it makes more sense for me to be there to listen to it firsthand. And I just remember, like, being in my zoom with my little camera off, taking my notes and meeting heroes of mine and creative people that I'd never. Would ever be in the room with. And have also created relationships with people from the podcast, not only from Good that, but just, like, connecting in real life. But, yeah, being in the room with people I would have 100% never been in the room with.
[00:17:34] Speaker A: I don't know about 100%.
[00:17:36] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:17:36] Speaker A: But not in this intimate way. Not in this, like.
Right. Really. Talking shop.
[00:17:42] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:17:42] Speaker A: Nuts and bolts of how. Of how.
[00:17:44] Speaker B: And not everything makes it into the episode. So there's conversations that I've heard that don't make it. That people don't hear that people don't hear. We try to include as much as possible.
So that's really special.
Yeah. And, like, I think there's, like, episodes that spic out, stick out Coco, Adult Coco. It's hitting strong. Like your conversation with Liana Blackburn or Tony Testa or Kat Rindich. Like, the people. People who I've trained with and who have helped me in my career thus far. And it's just cool to watch you guys talk together.
[00:18:18] Speaker A: Oh, yeah.
[00:18:19] Speaker B: And discuss, like, hear what I know, but also hear what I don't know.
[00:18:23] Speaker A: Interesting.
[00:18:24] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:18:24] Speaker A: Yeah, I love that.
[00:18:25] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:18:25] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:18:27] Speaker B: And then final is like this job slash our relationship. I wouldn't have this. I don't think we would have connected in this way if I hadn't reached out over Instagram in 2020.
[00:18:39] Speaker A: Do you want to tell the people what you said? Do you want to tell the people what you wrote to me in 2020? Yeah, it's long. I know.
I read it.
[00:18:48] Speaker B: Okay, so this is April 1st, 2020.
[00:18:51] Speaker A: Oh, my God.
[00:18:52] Speaker B: Yes, Dana. Exclamation point. Yeah. I just wanted to reach out and say thank you so much for this podcast you are creating. Even before this isolated time, it was bringing me and so many others a lot of joy and inspiration. With all that being said, I would love to give some of that back to you. I know you just set up your patreon and I would love to be involved in this podcast, but financially, I am just not able to. Instead, I wanted to offer up any services that you may need while. While you are setting up this podcast pro bono. I have a lot of technical skills that I can offer. I'm fluent in editing on Final Cut Pro. I have also been a transcribe for a documentary. If you would ever want your podcast written out, I run. I have run several social media accounts and would be able to help you organize your content or direct messages coming in. I also have done a little bit of sound editing if you need any support with that. And by sound editing cutting on GarageBand.
I understand making mixes. Yeah, I understand if you don't need anyone right now, but I just wanted to offer my support, especially now that I have the time. Your career has been an inspiration to me. I'm coming from artistic fusion and felt the love shared between us and Michelle's and I would be super psyched to work with you, learn from you. Please let me know if any of this interests you. I'm also super down to learn some new skills. If there's anything else you need in this time, if it's easier to talk to me over email, blah, blah, blah. Thanks for your time reading all this and I hope you're staying funky today.
That was my message.
[00:20:09] Speaker A: That's a solid message. Thank you. Hence the reply.
[00:20:12] Speaker B: It's true.
[00:20:14] Speaker A: You know what I like about that?
It tells me that you've done your homework.
[00:20:19] Speaker B: Thank you.
[00:20:19] Speaker A: That you know who I am, that you know where I'm from, that we have a kinship.
[00:20:22] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:20:23] Speaker A: Although I would have probably led with that.
[00:20:25] Speaker B: Oh, really?
[00:20:26] Speaker A: Huh.
[00:20:27] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:20:28] Speaker A: But I. I love receiving compliments. I read them all. It doesn't matter. But it. Anyways what I. You say, like, even in your sign off, which is like, I hope you're having a funky day.
[00:20:39] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:20:39] Speaker A: I'm like, oh, you're actually. You mean it?
[00:20:41] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:20:42] Speaker A: You listen. Right.
And that you knew that I already had an assistant. Yes. And that you had done your homework. It. You. You gave deep cuts. You were like, oh, there's this and this little thing and this little thing. Oh, and by the way, Michelle's artistic fusion, blah, blah, blah.
It's.
And that you lead with your value. I think that is the thing that most people don't do when they reach out and they tell someone, I admire your career. I want to be involved.
[00:21:08] Speaker B: Right.
[00:21:08] Speaker A: They don't lead with.
With what they can do.
[00:21:12] Speaker B: I got to tell you what they.
[00:21:13] Speaker A: Lead with, what I can do for them. Right.
So that's what got you a callback.
[00:21:18] Speaker B: Thank you.
My audition. Okay. Those are. Those are my five things. Nice. Yeah.
[00:21:24] Speaker A: None of them were episodes. Now I'm feeling.
[00:21:26] Speaker B: No, but.
[00:21:27] Speaker A: No, no, I mentioned that. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. You did the good part.
[00:21:30] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:21:31] Speaker A: Okay, you said that you have a game for today.
[00:21:33] Speaker B: Do you wanna do the game first or. I have other questions first. Which one do you prefer?
[00:21:37] Speaker A: Questions. Okay.
[00:21:39] Speaker B: So I always like to bring back one of your solo episodes of the year in this final wrap up.
And there's actually your least solo year.
You only did three, and that's usually not the case.
[00:21:55] Speaker A: Ow.
Oh, that's bananas.
[00:21:58] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:21:59] Speaker A: Wow.
[00:22:00] Speaker B: Yeah. We wanted to talk to more guests, and that's great. Okay. So one of them. The. It was like our third episode in this year is about grit and grace.
[00:22:08] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:22:09] Speaker B: And I wanted to check in on how is your negotiation between grit and grace this year? Do you find one leading over the other at the current moment, or have you found a better balance between the two?
[00:22:22] Speaker A: It's grit right now leading the charge.
[00:22:25] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:22:26] Speaker A: But that's because I'm in a chapter of unusual circumstances happening all at once.
[00:22:32] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:22:32] Speaker A: So production on the seaweed sister show, acquisition of a new property.
[00:22:38] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:22:39] Speaker A: Some big changes for the choreographers guild needing to. My lease is up on my vehicle, so I'm buying my car.
[00:22:45] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:22:46] Speaker A: There's a new California mandate that every company that has one or more employee needs to have 401k options. So I'm there's, like, a lot of things that are kind of once in a while happening at once, same time.
[00:23:00] Speaker B: Right.
[00:23:00] Speaker A: And I think we're changing.
[00:23:02] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:23:02] Speaker A: Yeah. Complete overhaul on the. Where's it move me? Community membership.
And so I.
I do feel a little bit that the voice that leads is the leading voice, is the one that's like, get it done or else.
[00:23:16] Speaker B: Right.
[00:23:16] Speaker A: You don't stop. Keep going. Keep going. Is leading.
That's the leading voice for all the time.
But I did just get coached on actually feeling overwhelmed, which I think is the reason why most people avoid grit, because it. Grit can lead to grind or burnout and, like, grinding gears.
And I.
If you must know, you didn't ask, but I'm going to tell you.
[00:23:45] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:23:46] Speaker A: Overwhelmed, to me feels like liquid hot magma cooling and getting really. So at first, it's drinking white hot. No, this is cozy warm. This is cozy sweet.
[00:23:58] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:24:00] Speaker A: Magma is like white hot, then orange, red, then black.
And it starts dripping on my head and then my shoulders, and then my whole body's engulfed in flame, and I cannot move because it's crazy heavy.
So that's what overwhelm feels like for me or looks like. And that's my experience of overwhelm personified.
[00:24:24] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:24:26] Speaker A: And then my coach, Mason. Shout out Mason Tang coached me through this beautiful visualization where a color that I imagine is cozy, not. Not hot chocolate, but, like healing and good and light and healthy is peach.
Like the color of my office in the. In the second bedroom. Is this, like, pinky peach?
[00:24:50] Speaker B: Yeah, it's.
[00:24:51] Speaker A: It's kind of a words that move me ecosystem color. It's in the logo. It's like this peachy pinky thing.
[00:24:56] Speaker B: Right.
[00:24:56] Speaker A: And it's very soft, like powdered sugar. A big gummy bear. That's that color. And I discovered that that gummy bear, giant, huge peach fuzz gummy bear can swallow liquid hot magma and it glows through his throat, and it winds up in his belly, and his belly is just a little glowy peach. Peach belly.
[00:25:18] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:25:18] Speaker A: And so that's kind of. So I. So I contain the overwhelm instead of. The overwhelm happens to me.
[00:25:24] Speaker B: Right.
[00:25:25] Speaker A: I contain it. I control it. I can house it.
[00:25:29] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:25:29] Speaker A: And so that's been a helpful tool. Like, it's a helpful thought to remember that I can contain it versus it is outside of me, happening to me, restricting me.
Riz, she's like, what?
I'm gonna have to put her back on my lap. This little.
Okay, so we're back.
Back to where we started Riz snoozing on my arm.
I'm just gonna like flip that one right back at you.
[00:26:01] Speaker B: How about you?
[00:26:02] Speaker A: Because you've had a humdinger of a couple of weeks international travel sickness. End of the year, you got sick multiple times. What voice is leading for sure.
[00:26:12] Speaker B: But mostly because it's been like back to back to back to back to back sicknesses. Like feel healthy for two days and then back into sickness.
[00:26:22] Speaker A: Because, yeah, grit doesn't work for that. But, like it doesn't make you healthy.
[00:26:25] Speaker B: I'm already gritting through because this was all happening while on contract for a job. Like, I was sick as the job was happening.
So the grit part was stay and get the job done. As much of the job as you can do in this way. But there were moments where I was like, okay, maybe I lead the room from a chair today. Yeah, it doesn't mean I don't lead at all, but maybe I lead from a chair.
[00:26:50] Speaker A: Love that.
[00:26:51] Speaker B: And maybe I go to sleep at 6pm tonight when I get off this rehearsal.
So definitely Grace was like, get through this. But like, take the time. Like, don't try to do extra things. It's okay that, like other things aren't happening at the same time that this rehearsal is happening.
So definitely Grace. But in the last three days, definitely some grit has come back. After I made a to do list of all the things that I haven't been doing because I've been taking care of myself, which is great.
[00:27:22] Speaker A: The end of the year is coming.
[00:27:23] Speaker B: We have to do it. Bought this thing called a big ass calendar. I'm excited about it genuinely, but I feel like that is putting me on like my get my shit together.
[00:27:32] Speaker A: Ooh, I love that clause.
[00:27:33] Speaker B: And there's a lot of stuff that I want to wrap up. I just don't want to take into 2026. So I think Grace has left the chat.
[00:27:41] Speaker A: What are you not bringing with you into 2026?
[00:27:44] Speaker B: I am not bringing a messy hard drive into 2026. I just spent hours cleaning my hard drive gorgeous. And all of my hard drives gorgeous.
I am not bringing this one financial thing that's been on my list for a very long time that is going to go away.
That's been only. I'll take care of that. I'll take care of that. But every time I go to call the person, it's the weekend shit. So it's now set on the week when I'm going to call this person.
I'm not going to have unedited Concepts. Because there's like three that can just be.
[00:28:20] Speaker A: You're going to go ahead probably.
[00:28:21] Speaker B: I'm so fast when it comes.
[00:28:23] Speaker A: You're just going to go ahead.
[00:28:24] Speaker B: Those are just going to be done. Those concepts are going to be done. Maybe posted, maybe not by the end of the year, but they're going to be finished. I'm going to have a website at the end of the year and two new reels.
[00:28:35] Speaker A: Yes. Higgins, Good job.
[00:28:36] Speaker B: Yeah. That's what we're bringing into 2026.
[00:28:39] Speaker A: Great.
Love that.
[00:28:41] Speaker B: And a lot of grit is leading that way right now.
[00:28:43] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:28:44] Speaker B: Gorgeous. Yeah. So we'll see how that works.
[00:28:47] Speaker A: Very excited for you.
[00:28:48] Speaker B: Thank you.
Yay.
Okay, cool. Another question before our game and then we'll do our game, I promise.
[00:28:56] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:28:57] Speaker B: It also might be an impossible game. I don't know.
[00:29:00] Speaker A: Can't wait to find out. I love a challenge. Unless it's running.
[00:29:03] Speaker B: No running.
We will. And then at the end we'll tell our travel story.
[00:29:07] Speaker A: Tell our story where it turns out we had to run.
[00:29:10] Speaker B: Are being bored by this conversation. I'm sorry. If you are, you're gonna want to stick around because you're gonna want to.
[00:29:15] Speaker A: Just go make yourself a hot chocolate and stick.
[00:29:18] Speaker B: Stick around. Stick around. Because our travel story at the end is one for the ages. But we are going to talk about travel now.
[00:29:25] Speaker A: This is so good.
[00:29:26] Speaker B: I'm really good at making it. I know.
[00:29:27] Speaker A: I'm almost.
[00:29:28] Speaker B: It's almost gone and you didn't want it.
I am a grace.
[00:29:33] Speaker A: I always say I don't want it.
[00:29:35] Speaker B: I know. But I'm pretty good at making things. You have to remember that.
[00:29:38] Speaker A: I do.
[00:29:38] Speaker B: Okay. So this has been a year of travel for both of us. I think pretty heavy on the travel since the pandemic. Like, you've definitely traveled pre this more. But in episode seven, you talked about what you pack in your bag.
[00:29:52] Speaker A: Totally.
[00:29:53] Speaker B: Are there any updates to what you now travel with? Like, what is an essential item that goes into your bag? Or is it exactly the same as when you were doing tour life?
[00:30:03] Speaker A: It is very close to the same. Although in my more seasoned age, I would say I'm traveling with way more Korean skincare.
[00:30:14] Speaker B: Travel size.
[00:30:17] Speaker A: I really push that three ounce limit. I think I have a couple.
[00:30:20] Speaker B: I get caught every fucking time. So I've just accepted that it has to be 3 ounces. I've never been able to push it.
[00:30:28] Speaker A: So, yeah, it's pretty much the same.
I still rely heavily on having a solid backpack.
[00:30:39] Speaker B: That's true. And you got a New one this year.
[00:30:41] Speaker A: I got a new backpack this year. It's a Bugatti. Literally.
[00:30:44] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:30:45] Speaker A: That's so strange. The only thing I don't like about it is that it's black on the inside, which, as you know, I have beef with.
[00:30:52] Speaker B: Oh, okay.
[00:30:53] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:30:53] Speaker B: But you can't go scratch.
[00:30:54] Speaker A: Don't go scratching.
[00:30:56] Speaker B: I bought one, too, but it is white on the inside.
[00:31:00] Speaker A: Smart.
Some face masks that are, like, not 4.99 each.
A good night cream is definitely changed. I do have these also under eye.
Silicone patch things that I travel with now. Rarely use them because I'm so zonked by the end of my night that I'm just like. And now it's bedtime.
[00:31:23] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:31:27] Speaker A: One thing that I'm doing way more often now than I ever did on tour because those stays were way short. Like.
[00:31:33] Speaker B: Right, you're there for a day. Exactly.
[00:31:36] Speaker A: And lately my convention weekends now include Thursdays because there's competition Friday morning. And so Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, I have enough time to unpack my suitcase. So almost always the first thing I do when I get to a hotel now is unpack. Everything gets hung and laid out. And I love that.
[00:31:56] Speaker B: That. That is really nice.
[00:31:57] Speaker A: So that's a change. That's new. That's new in my.
Yeah. In my travel life.
[00:32:02] Speaker B: Right.
[00:32:02] Speaker A: Yeah, I like it. Yeah.
[00:32:04] Speaker B: But, like, the contents are mostly the.
[00:32:06] Speaker A: Same contents, almost all the same. I have a foam roller. I have hydration packets. I have.
Actually, those are kind of new. They didn't have those when I was on tour. Yeah, that was not a thing.
[00:32:16] Speaker B: No, the Liquid iv.
[00:32:18] Speaker A: Liquid IV stuff. Yeah. I love the ones that I prefer. I don't love Liquid iv. Actually, they're called Nectar. Super Shout Out. Super. Not sponsored, paid ad. But I would love it to be.
Love this. I've been a subscriber for over a year. I get them every month, and I'm obsessed.
Theragun check.
Yeah. Foam roller. I mentioned the chargers.
I do have a new perfume that I love right now.
Can't remember the name of it. Tom Ford. Wild Cherry.
Wild Cherry, Sour Cherry. Sour Cherry Wild.
[00:32:53] Speaker B: I think Red Wagon Cherry.
[00:32:57] Speaker A: Cherry Cherry. Which is crazy. I just realized that cherry is kind of a thing for me. I got a mustache tattoo when I turned 21. And then for a long time after that, every time somebody saw a mustache thing, they would buy it for me. And I had, like, mustache Band aids and mustache refrigerator magnets and all the mustache. And I'm like, I don't actually like mustaches. I thought the Finger. Mustache was fine.
[00:33:19] Speaker B: Funny. Yeah.
[00:33:19] Speaker A: It's the same now with cherries because I wear these cherry earrings that everybody thinks, I must really love cherries.
I love those earrings.
[00:33:27] Speaker B: I have seen cherry things and have thought, oh, maybe Dana would want that.
[00:33:29] Speaker A: I have cherry water bottles. I have a cherry LED light. I have.
It's not on. It should be, though. It's red and green. Grab it.
Good job. That was impressive.
Gorgeous.
[00:33:44] Speaker B: See?
[00:33:45] Speaker A: Perfect.
[00:33:46] Speaker B: I don't even think you can see it from any of those cameras.
[00:33:48] Speaker A: Maybe. Nope. Probably not.
Cute.
I think. Actually, I think I bought that for myself.
[00:33:57] Speaker B: I think you did, too.
[00:33:58] Speaker A: So funny.
Okay. Yeah, Good one. Good one.
[00:34:01] Speaker B: Yeah. Okay, great. That's your travel.
[00:34:03] Speaker A: Yeah. How about yours? Because you're an international travel now. You had never been out of.
[00:34:08] Speaker B: No, I have been the United States.
[00:34:10] Speaker A: I had Not European.
[00:34:12] Speaker B: Not to Europe.
[00:34:12] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:34:13] Speaker B: Okay. This was my first time going to Europe.
[00:34:14] Speaker A: What did you learn from your travel? From your travels this year?
[00:34:20] Speaker B: Bring a charger with you anytime you leave, Period.
[00:34:24] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:34:25] Speaker B: That is my new travel rule.
[00:34:26] Speaker A: You're leaving your hotel room, bring a charger.
[00:34:27] Speaker B: Bring your charger.
[00:34:28] Speaker A: You. You don't know where you're going.
[00:34:29] Speaker B: You don't know where you're going. You don't know if you're going to be brought somewhere where you won't have access to that. And you might be left and might not be able to get back to where you're going. You might need a charger anyways. Riz.
[00:34:44] Speaker A: It's unreal. It's unreal the way that she knows that we're doing a podcast and she.
[00:34:48] Speaker B: Can get whatever she's scratching for the trash can.
[00:34:50] Speaker A: So weird.
[00:34:51] Speaker B: What goes in my travel bag. It's becoming more succinct. I've stopped bringing a roller because it's so chunky. I now just bring a tennis ball.
[00:34:59] Speaker A: Got it. Because it's like tennis balls for foam rolling. They don't help me.
[00:35:02] Speaker B: I. I have some. But seriously, the economy of having that much space taken up from that giant. That foam roller was pissing me off, and I didn't use it enough to justify bringing it all the time.
[00:35:13] Speaker A: They don't make my foam roller anymore. It's hollow.
[00:35:16] Speaker B: Mine's hollow, too.
[00:35:17] Speaker A: Oh, okay.
Mine's just tiny.
[00:35:19] Speaker B: But I can't. Like, nothing really of mine fits in there very well.
[00:35:24] Speaker A: One specific kind of thermos from Starbucks fits in mine, so I have three of it and it goes.
[00:35:29] Speaker B: See, that's nice. Mine has to be separate, so it doesn't work as well.
[00:35:33] Speaker A: Doesn't Serve you.
[00:35:34] Speaker B: So that has been abandoned by. Always bring a book. I'm still not a Kindle person, so I'll still bring like 800 page books. And I'll bring two of them because I'll probably finish no foam roller. Because I need the books.
[00:35:45] Speaker A: Fatty book.
[00:35:45] Speaker B: But I have the tennis ball. Yeah, yeah.
[00:35:48] Speaker A: I do get the economy of that is more. I get it.
[00:35:52] Speaker B: Yeah. I'm still finding my routine, but I don't.
[00:35:54] Speaker A: Those are like big, big lessons learned.
[00:35:56] Speaker B: I now, if I. When I go. I go to Orlando now a couple times for like a two week stay. And I do bring my blender with me. And that is fucking awesome.
[00:36:04] Speaker A: Brought the beast with you.
[00:36:05] Speaker B: I bring the beast with me.
[00:36:07] Speaker A: Absolutely.
[00:36:08] Speaker B: Be splendor.
[00:36:09] Speaker A: Does that go under Best Christmas present ever.
[00:36:11] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:36:11] Speaker A: Fuck, yeah.
[00:36:12] Speaker B: It's pretty great. Oh, that was a. That was a birthday. Because I was gonna say my parents bought me or split with me a peloton bike. And that was also.
[00:36:20] Speaker A: Sorry, did they split it or did they split it with you?
Speaking of split, I've already got a.
[00:36:24] Speaker B: Hole in my socks. So we're not returning those.
[00:36:27] Speaker A: We're not returning socks. I don't even think we're returning the gym listener viewer. What do you think about the jam?
I think we love them.
[00:36:35] Speaker B: Okay, great. They're actually really cute men's. You go the men's cut.
[00:36:38] Speaker A: Don't ever buy one.
[00:36:40] Speaker B: Tampering. Tampering. Tempering. What's it called?
[00:36:43] Speaker A: Tailoring.
[00:36:43] Speaker B: Thank you.
[00:36:47] Speaker A: No, you know what I'm talking about. Like the tapering.
[00:36:50] Speaker B: Thank you.
[00:36:51] Speaker A: There it is.
Tapered. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Nobody needs a tapered pajama.
[00:36:56] Speaker B: No one needs to see the outline of my boob.
[00:36:58] Speaker A: That's some.
[00:36:59] Speaker B: The fact that they, like, tighten the chest too. Like, just let me be loose.
Let it be loose. Let it be comfortable.
[00:37:05] Speaker A: Don't get me started.
[00:37:06] Speaker B: Okay, Are you ready for this impossible game? Yes.
[00:37:10] Speaker A: Does it involve drinking more hot cocoa?
[00:37:12] Speaker B: No, but let's keep drinking. Mine's gone. Oh, fuck. Okay. I didn't make more because you said, don't make more.
[00:37:18] Speaker A: Well, I just didn't know if I had enough milk. And maybe I don't.
[00:37:22] Speaker B: No, we did, but you thought you didn't want this.
I didn't know how good he was. I know. Tried to tell you.
[00:37:28] Speaker A: It's so good.
So sad.
[00:37:34] Speaker B: I can't. Okay.
It's gonna be impossible. Okay, so I've looked at videos from the last year that I've. Because, you know, I just filmed, like.
[00:37:42] Speaker A: What kind of your videos on your Phone.
[00:37:44] Speaker B: My video's on my phone. I am somewhat of a major recorder. I will just whip out a phone.
[00:37:49] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:37:50] Speaker B: A lot.
And catch fun, stupid moments. I like to do that.
[00:37:55] Speaker A: She's an archivist a little bit.
[00:37:58] Speaker B: And so I have just, like, videos of you that exist on my phone. And so I want you to listen to the audio and guess and tell.
[00:38:06] Speaker A: You what was happening in the moment. Yeah.
[00:38:09] Speaker B: And I think. I don't think you're gonna be able to do it. I can't wait. I think it's really hard.
[00:38:14] Speaker A: I can't wait.
Okay. This is great. Fucking great game, Higgins.
[00:38:18] Speaker B: Thank you. Video number one. That's strong.
[00:38:21] Speaker A: Now she walks.
[00:38:25] Speaker B: What did I say?
That's strong.
Keep it going.
That's strong.
[00:38:35] Speaker A: Is that walking Riz, outside? Are we in front of the 7 11?
[00:38:39] Speaker B: No, we're not.
Did you hear what you said? It's.
[00:38:43] Speaker A: No.
[00:38:45] Speaker B: You say how I walk in kitten heels.
[00:38:48] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. We are outside Laemmle Theater leaving the premiere of Cats. Premiere of Cats thing.
[00:38:56] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:38:57] Speaker A: And I remember my outfit. I was wearing a red kitten heel and my.
[00:39:03] Speaker B: Orange.
[00:39:03] Speaker A: Very fancy. Oh, I forgot about the bucket hat.
Is that what she wants?
[00:39:09] Speaker B: Keep it going.
[00:39:12] Speaker A: Perfect. Great. Okay. Thank you for your help on that one.
[00:39:14] Speaker B: Yes.
Okay.
You're not going to be able to guess it. You're just going to hear me laugh. Basically, for this one, You let you hear it the second time.
[00:39:28] Speaker A: I can do better. I can do better.
[00:39:32] Speaker B: Wow.
[00:39:33] Speaker A: Feels very good.
Man. I love how much I congratulate myself. Look at me congratulating myself with that self feedback.
I have no idea what that is. Wow.
Oh, my God. Speaking of foam roller, have you guys. Are you. Are you with it, listener, viewer on how to foam roll your inner thighs? Because if you think it involves being on the ground, you're wrong.
[00:40:02] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:40:03] Speaker A: It involves standing with your feet together.
[00:40:06] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:40:08] Speaker A: And with the foam roller higher than your knees, but lower than your.
[00:40:13] Speaker B: In the middle, is what I would say.
[00:40:14] Speaker A: Flopped right in the middle.
[00:40:15] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:40:16] Speaker A: And then you bend one knee at a time.
[00:40:18] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:40:19] Speaker A: Kind of pedaling the legs out. Walk it out. Basically you're walking it out, but with your feet, with your heels together and.
Wow. That gets a real deep, deep place.
[00:40:31] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:40:31] Speaker A: And then you slowly. You inch the foam roller up closer to the crotchal region.
[00:40:36] Speaker B: Right.
[00:40:37] Speaker A: It like inch at a time and then walk it out one inch higher. Walk it out. One entire walk it out.
[00:40:41] Speaker B: Woof. Yeah.
[00:40:42] Speaker A: And you had never seen that before?
[00:40:43] Speaker B: No.
[00:40:43] Speaker A: And I was doing that in public.
[00:40:45] Speaker B: No, she just whipped it out in the Middle of the Paris airport.
[00:40:49] Speaker A: Was that on our way there? On the way.
[00:40:51] Speaker B: On our way there.
Wait, we're not there yet.
[00:40:54] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:40:55] Speaker B: Story.
[00:41:08] Speaker A: Yeah, I'm popping. That's my going away party.
That's my going away party.
[00:41:14] Speaker B: See it?
Yeah. No.
[00:41:17] Speaker A: Don't ever pop in the jumper.
Look out though.
I'm still going, right? Oh, More than an eight count of Fresno's. Oh, I had a Riz hair on my face just now.
That is funny. Okay. Okay. How many do you have?
[00:41:37] Speaker B: I have a lot. We'll do like three more.
[00:41:40] Speaker A: We'll just do the. You can keep the ones in it that are very funny.
[00:41:44] Speaker B: Oh, it's a video.
You don't talk.
But I just want you to guess by the environment.
You're doing a solo.
So good.
[00:42:00] Speaker A: I miss it.
Obviously. I know that song.
[00:42:08] Speaker B: Right.
[00:42:08] Speaker A: But that's not the version from the Mini Outstanding Dancer number.
[00:42:12] Speaker B: No, it was playing in public, if that helps.
We were not in la. That also helps.
[00:42:23] Speaker A: Play it one more time.
[00:42:24] Speaker B: Okay. Listen to like, what's going on around Prince?
[00:42:32] Speaker A: Chain link fences being opened and closed.
[00:42:34] Speaker B: That's what it sounds like.
[00:42:39] Speaker A: A door opening and closing. I miss it.
Fishing. What is it?
[00:42:46] Speaker B: Show me.
[00:42:47] Speaker A: Show me.
Oh, my God.
[00:42:51] Speaker B: Oh, my God.
[00:42:52] Speaker A: I remember this moment.
[00:42:55] Speaker B: Yeah. We're.
[00:42:55] Speaker A: We're Thrift stories. Store shopping in Utah because of the fires in la. Yeah. We needed a place to live.
[00:43:04] Speaker B: And we quicked out so fast that we didn't have all.
[00:43:07] Speaker A: That we didn't have clothes.
[00:43:12] Speaker B: Riz.
So yeah. We were in a Goodwill.
[00:43:17] Speaker A: That is so much fun. I totally remember that.
[00:43:20] Speaker B: And you were doing a solo.
[00:43:22] Speaker A: I was doing to Prince. Good job. You have one more.
[00:43:25] Speaker B: I have more, but.
[00:43:26] Speaker A: Okay, I think we're good. That's a great game. Thank you. It is hard.
[00:43:29] Speaker B: It is hard.
[00:43:30] Speaker A: But it's. That was. I really could have. Should have got the Goodwill one. That was right there. I know.
That's so funny. Very good game.
[00:43:37] Speaker B: Thank you.
[00:43:39] Speaker A: Okay, I'll have mine ready for you next time.
[00:43:41] Speaker B: Okay, great.
[00:43:44] Speaker A: Although most of the footage that I have of us is in the dance studio just trying combos. Oh, yeah.
[00:43:50] Speaker B: I had one from when we tried to the combo that will Never be, which is mixer. I almost played the beginning of that one.
[00:43:58] Speaker A: Oh, man. I feel so bad about that.
[00:44:00] Speaker B: Don't feel bad about it.
[00:44:01] Speaker A: Riley asked me for her birthday.
[00:44:03] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:44:03] Speaker A: With my birthday for this song. And I was like, oh, it's been on my list. I love this song.
[00:44:08] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:44:09] Speaker A: But I have no idea.
[00:44:11] Speaker B: It's a hard one.
[00:44:11] Speaker A: How to move to It.
[00:44:12] Speaker B: No. It's hard.
[00:44:13] Speaker A: It's not.
[00:44:14] Speaker B: Which is why I asked you to do it, because I thought you could.
[00:44:16] Speaker A: Do it and I couldn't.
[00:44:18] Speaker B: You can't yet. Oh, is it still on the board?
[00:44:21] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:44:22] Speaker B: Dude. Okay, cool.
[00:44:23] Speaker A: It's a birthday present.
[00:44:25] Speaker B: Am I. When am I receiving that birthday present?
[00:44:27] Speaker A: Maybe on August 29th.
[00:44:30] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:44:31] Speaker A: Good job, Riley. You hosted the shit out of this episode. Dude, that was awesome.
[00:44:36] Speaker B: Should we tell our airport story as our. As our finale?
[00:44:39] Speaker A: I would really rather not, but it is important that you, listener, viewer, know that I am human. Do you want to start?
[00:44:45] Speaker B: So as a reward, you get this.
[00:44:48] Speaker A: Airport story, which I won't tell in person very often because I don't like to admit being late or out of control. Obviously, it was noticed from this episode.
[00:44:56] Speaker B: It was a strange behavior for both of us.
[00:44:59] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:44:59] Speaker B: Like, everything that went wrong was like a cocktail of things that usually for both of us, never wrong. So we. That's why we were so chill, because things like this don't happen to us. We're fine.
[00:45:11] Speaker A: We're not going to miss our flight.
Wink, wink.
[00:45:14] Speaker B: So you were flying in from Arizona. We were meeting at LAX to then fly to Italy.
Fly. Fly to Paris, and then Paris to Sicily.
Yeah. Yes.
And when you got off the plane, you texted me and you said, is there a lounge in the international wing? Or you called me and I was like. Or you're like, I'm just gonna stay in the Delta Lounge because I want to be in a lounge. And I was like, oh, actually, specifically the Delta Lounge. It's gorgeous.
And I was like, no, there is a lounge in the International Lounge.
[00:45:46] Speaker A: The Centurion Lounge.
[00:45:47] Speaker B: The Centurion Lounge. I was like, you should just meet me there. And you're like, okay, I'll meet you there.
And then I'm in the Uber. Still on the way.
I don't. No, no. You hadn't texted me anything yet. You're like, okay, I'm in the lounge. I get through security pretty fast. I will say.
And it is important to note that on our ticket, there was no boarding time.
Correct.
No updates, no anything.
I get into the Centurion Lounge, we hug. We haven't seen each other for a while. You're putting on hugs, by the way.
[00:46:17] Speaker A: With your rare bestie. Bestie. Like, with somebody that you see every day, you just stop hugging them because you're gonna see them in, like, six hours.
[00:46:23] Speaker B: That's why I mentioned it as a beat in the story. It was strange for us. Yeah. Yeah.
[00:46:26] Speaker A: It's an unusual Beat probably. So we were probably. Why we. Yeah, we were both shocked. We had hugged. So we were destabilized.
[00:46:32] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:46:33] Speaker A: And we had to get our bearings again.
[00:46:35] Speaker B: Yes. And you just bought a phone protector.
[00:46:37] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:46:37] Speaker B: And you were putting on the phone.
[00:46:38] Speaker A: Protector, which also takes great focus.
[00:46:40] Speaker B: But as I was hugging you, you look at me and you say, yo, this place is a dungeon.
[00:46:45] Speaker A: I don't like it here. The ceilings are too low.
[00:46:47] Speaker B: The ceilings are too low.
[00:46:48] Speaker A: There's no natural light.
[00:46:49] Speaker B: And you're like, the Delta Lounge is the sky. It's literally outside, actually, the sky. And I was like, oh, okay, we can go back. And you're like, no, no, we're fine. And I was like, okay. And then as you're putting on your screen protector, you mentioned that this place is a dungeon again.
I was like, three more times.
[00:47:05] Speaker A: There's no light in here. I can't even put my phone screen on.
[00:47:09] Speaker B: It was one too many. Where I was like, you know what?
[00:47:11] Speaker A: Should we just leave? Let's just go.
[00:47:13] Speaker B: How far away is the Delta Lounge?
[00:47:14] Speaker A: Very couple moments.
[00:47:15] Speaker B: It was. It was.
[00:47:16] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:47:16] Speaker B: How far away is the Delta lounge? You're like, 15 minutes. We walk fast. So we were like, 10 for us. Yeah, let's just go there. We have so much time until our flight. Like, it's gonna be better if we're in the Delta Lounge.
[00:47:27] Speaker A: We're enjoy ourselves.
[00:47:28] Speaker B: We're enjoy ourselves. So we casually walked to the Delta.
[00:47:30] Speaker A: Lounge, which took probably nine minutes, which.
[00:47:33] Speaker B: Probably took nine minutes because we're really fast walkers. Very fast. And this entire.
[00:47:36] Speaker A: I'm probably a faster walker than I am a runner.
[00:47:40] Speaker B: It's true.
[00:47:40] Speaker A: Which. Which we'll get to.
[00:47:42] Speaker B: We'll get to. But it is important to note that neither of us looked at where our gate is in that International Lounge.
[00:47:48] Speaker A: That's true.
[00:47:49] Speaker B: Neither of us checked, like, because the Centurion Lounge is right when you get out of security. So I just met you right away. We never checked where the lounge was.
[00:47:56] Speaker A: Or where our gate was relative to.
[00:47:59] Speaker B: The lounge in lax.
And so we walked. At Delta, we grab a glass of champagne, we do some work.
[00:48:05] Speaker A: We made an Instagram post.
[00:48:06] Speaker B: Made Instagram post. Like, oh, we're together. We're flying. Cheers.
You drop your champagne.
[00:48:12] Speaker A: Oh, my God.
Rookie.
[00:48:16] Speaker B: And then I say something to the effect I was like, oh, maybe we should leave 10 minutes.
Because I will say I am the one that said when we should leave, because I was basing it off of some different math that was not correct math. Spoiler alert.
Which I'm. I'M like, two hours early to the airport. Like, this is not my normal math. Yeah.
[00:48:34] Speaker A: You're not, like, to push it.
[00:48:36] Speaker B: I think I messed up, like, our flight time with our boarding time or like, something.
Something got really messed up, and.
And it was starting to close, and I was like, I'm getting a little nervous. We're pretty far from where we are. Let's leave a little bit early. You're like, no, no, no, we're fine. I was like.
[00:48:53] Speaker A: I was like, I promise we're not missing this flight.
[00:48:55] Speaker B: I know.
[00:48:57] Speaker A: Which is saying a lot for someone who literally doesn't know the departure time of the flight. Right. I didn't even know. No, I.
[00:49:02] Speaker B: Because you were trusting that I knew.
[00:49:04] Speaker A: It was like, it was my third boarding pass of the day. I was over it.
[00:49:09] Speaker B: And so we separate because I was like, I'm going to go down, and. And you're like, I want to get a coffee.
And all I remember. You can tell the next part. But all I remember is Dana comes running, sprinting down the escalator, and she goes, dude, they're closing the door in two minutes. They're closing the door now to our flight. I was like, what are you talking about? And you're like.
[00:49:34] Speaker A: I was like, it's 10 minutes to take off.
[00:49:37] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:49:37] Speaker A: Right now. Not 10 minutes to boarding right now.
[00:49:41] Speaker B: And sheer panic.
So we both start sprinting. And I was like, how do you know this?
[00:49:46] Speaker A: Starts yelling at me, ma', am, please don't run down the escalator.
[00:49:49] Speaker B: Right?
[00:49:49] Speaker A: No, with your carry on bag.
[00:49:51] Speaker B: We're gonna be running.
[00:49:52] Speaker A: I'm running.
[00:49:53] Speaker B: And I was like, how do you know this? And they're like, they. They just called me.
[00:49:56] Speaker A: I got a call from an unknown number and answered it, probably because I thought it was Tony Basil.
And they were like, dana Wilson. And I was like, yahoo, Dis.
And she was like, this is the gate agent for flight. Blah, blah, blah. Are you here? And I was like, yeah, at the Delta Lounge.
[00:50:15] Speaker B: Are you here?
[00:50:18] Speaker A: And she was like, we're closing the door for your flight in two minutes.
Are you two minutes away? And I was like, yes, liar.
[00:50:25] Speaker B: We are 15 minutes away from the lounge. The Centurion Lounge. But spoiler alert, our gate is like.
[00:50:33] Speaker A: Oh, the furthest deep in the.
[00:50:35] Speaker B: Anytime you turn the corner, you. You saw 2:25 that way. Every single time I turned a corner, there was a new error, error, error.
[00:50:43] Speaker A: It felt like an error error for our gate.
[00:50:47] Speaker B: So my favorite part, though, is we get out of the lounge, and we're sprinting and we've become the people who are yelling, move.
[00:50:54] Speaker A: Look out, look out.
[00:50:55] Speaker B: Cause you have to move. There's this family in front of us, like right out of the lounge. And I start yelling, move. And the dad and the mom and the other kid gets out of the way. And this other kid turns around on the walk, sees us and decides to go forward instead of to the side. And I don't care about that.
[00:51:14] Speaker A: And I don't have a rollerboard. You have a shoulder bag.
[00:51:17] Speaker B: Yeah, I have it, but I'm carrying.
[00:51:18] Speaker A: A backpack and a shoulder bag. That sucks. Yeah.
[00:51:20] Speaker B: And I used to do track, so I am pretty quick. We're pretty.
[00:51:24] Speaker A: You didn't mention that in your pitch email to me, but that is a useful.
[00:51:27] Speaker B: I had a six minute quality.
[00:51:29] Speaker A: Shut up.
[00:51:30] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:51:31] Speaker A: Even at my healthiest indoors, not a six minute mile. And I have asthma. So as soon as I'm running outside.
[00:51:36] Speaker B: It'S not or inside. So we mow down the kid.
[00:51:41] Speaker A: I in particular clothesline this guy. Poor dude. And his dad, his dad was like, son, son.
[00:51:47] Speaker B: No. He was like, hey, buddy. So I think he understood, like, hey, kid. You got it. That kid's gonna remember that for the rest of his life. Core memory, that family is gonna talk about. That time the two ladies ran him over in the airport.
We sprint.
[00:51:58] Speaker A: I almost went down to my knees.
[00:51:59] Speaker B: Yes. I think that's when you almost broke your phone. But you just put your phone protector.
[00:52:03] Speaker A: On and I crushed it. Isn't that crazy?
[00:52:06] Speaker B: So you saved your phone.
[00:52:07] Speaker A: Totally. In the. In the hours before.
[00:52:10] Speaker B: Yes, the hour. Because we did not have that much time to be at a lounge.
And so we start running. I cut in front of you. Like, I just take off. Because you have the roller.
[00:52:20] Speaker A: I'm on that. I'm on the escalator. I was like, just.
[00:52:22] Speaker B: There's too many escalators at lax. It's extreme, the amount of escalators. And at one point, it's my favorite moment of the story. I mean, not in the moment, but, like, it's funny now. I was running and I start to walk and I turn around to see where you are, and you're. You're standing on the escalator because you're not running down it with the bag. No. And you look at me and you say, you have to keep going.
[00:52:44] Speaker A: I said, stalham, keep going.
[00:52:46] Speaker B: You have to keep going. It wasn't even Stalin. It was, you have to keep going.
[00:52:49] Speaker A: And I said, you have to go.
[00:52:51] Speaker B: Okay. And so I start sprinting.
[00:52:53] Speaker A: I have to get on this point place. Yo, friends, listening, watching. Have you ever seen your friends run fast with bags?
[00:53:00] Speaker B: Different.
[00:53:01] Speaker A: Talk about a birthday gift.
[00:53:02] Speaker B: And I'm in. I'm in. I'm in Platform.
[00:53:04] Speaker A: Oh, jellies.
[00:53:06] Speaker B: I'm not even in, like, tennis shoes.
[00:53:08] Speaker A: I do wear sneakers when I go to the. Because of this.
[00:53:11] Speaker B: Yes. So I get ahead, and at one point, I find this person who has, like, a little cart, and I'm like, can you take me to my gate? I'm like, I'm going to miss my flight. And he's like, oh, it's up three flights of escalators. And then you're there. And I was like.
So then I sprint.
We just went down 4, so. And then we had to go up. I start running.
It took us probably 10 minutes from the Terminal 3 to Tom Bradley. Just go look at an airport map if you want to see what that looks like.
[00:53:38] Speaker A: LAX airport map, specifically.
[00:53:40] Speaker B: Specifically.
I get to the gate. You're, like, a little bit behind. And they're like, are you Dana? And I was like, no, I'm Riley. They're like, where's Dana? And I was like, she's right there.
[00:53:51] Speaker A: She told me to just go.
[00:53:53] Speaker B: She told me to stall. I was like, she's right there. And I was so flustered, I couldn't find my passport. And they're like. And I was just like. And they're like, just go. Just go. And then we get on the plane, huffing and puffing, sweating and.
[00:54:06] Speaker A: I mean, I forgot to interject while we're running.
[00:54:09] Speaker B: Oh, yes.
[00:54:09] Speaker A: I legitimately am looking for a place to throw up, because we had just down a glass of champagne and zero warm up. No, zero to. Literally. We were literally running 50 miles an hour, and I was looking for a place to vomit.
[00:54:25] Speaker B: I was like, for sure.
[00:54:25] Speaker A: I'm gonna. I've never felt my lungs were on fire.
[00:54:28] Speaker B: Exhaustion before and truly in my head.
[00:54:30] Speaker A: Because y' all know if you've been listening to the podcast, you know I'm on a fitness journey. Don't worry, I will not flex on them. It's covered in flannel. Yeah. But I'm on a fitness journey. And as I was running, I was like, oh, this is why you work out. This is why you get strong.
[00:54:42] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:54:42] Speaker A: And then six minutes later, I was like, I'm not strong. I'm not strong.
[00:54:46] Speaker B: I'm not.
[00:54:46] Speaker A: I'm gonna.
[00:54:47] Speaker B: I've never felt that level of exhaustion in the moment.
But you have to keep going. You can't stop.
We get on the flight. I remember I was so tired. I tried to lift my bag and then it fell because I didn't have the strength to lift it up because it had been used through my body. So someone had to like get up. It was a whole scene. I like sit down in the middle. The people next to me, they're like, where were you? They've been running up and down the aisles looking for Dana. And I was like, I'm not even Dana. They weren't even looking for me. They were also only looking for you because your tag was on your suitcase.
[00:55:17] Speaker A: I had checked a bag and when I checked a bag, because I was priority, I think they got my phone number when I checked my bag.
[00:55:24] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, yeah. And so we sit down and then we sit on that flight in the gate for 20 minutes at least, minimum.
[00:55:35] Speaker A: My sweat is now dried.
[00:55:37] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:55:37] Speaker A: My clothes are still wet.
[00:55:39] Speaker B: I will enter.
[00:55:40] Speaker A: I did a stretch, a picture of that area because I was like, if I sit for 14 hours after that marathon, yeah, I will 100% not be standing up.
[00:55:50] Speaker B: And then my favorite thing is when we were sitting there, you were like, I was thinking that you would get on the flight and I was going to rebook my flight.
[00:55:57] Speaker A: That's true. It was a thought that, that passed my mind. I was like, as long as Riley gets there, I can rebook my flight. Wouldn't it be fucked up if I rebooked a flight that was faster?
[00:56:08] Speaker B: While you're running, that's what you're thinking of.
[00:56:10] Speaker A: And I land and I get. And you get to the boat and I'm already on it with a glass of ch.
That's some up.
[00:56:17] Speaker B: They did bring a CH after that though. And we did have another glass of that's true.
[00:56:21] Speaker A: We sure did. But it was a great flight actually.
[00:56:24] Speaker B: Full, full sweat.
My clothes were drenched and my. I could feel like buzzing in my thighs.
[00:56:32] Speaker A: Yes, I was shaking.
[00:56:34] Speaker B: Cuz we sprinted a mile in 10 minutes with luggage. With luggage and not proper shoes. And no warm up.
[00:56:41] Speaker A: And champagne.
[00:56:42] Speaker B: And champagne.
And I was going to say never again. But you almost did recently.
[00:56:49] Speaker A: I did almost miss my flight recently because I was flying a United flight through Colorado and everybody knows the United terminal at DIA is terminal B. Yeah.
So I flew into 14 and my departing flight was from 44. Yeah, land it.
B14. I walk my ass to B44. But guess what gate my flight actually left from A44. So yeah, I did almost miss my flight, but it had nothing to do with my cocky time management lounge access attitude. I was legitimately just at the wrong gate. What the heck? Oh, my God.
[00:57:24] Speaker B: Yeah, we. We. We got that time wrong.
[00:57:27] Speaker A: Here's what's up, friends. I will miss a flight I have before. It will happen again.
[00:57:32] Speaker B: I missed my first flight this year.
[00:57:33] Speaker A: But the only time.
I've only missed one flight in my life.
[00:57:37] Speaker B: Me, too, but I overslept it.
[00:57:41] Speaker A: But when you fly, the amount that we fly, like, that's just going to happen.
What was he going to say?
I know it'll happen again, but here's what I will say.
I will only run at the airport if it is A, a work flight and B, international.
[00:58:00] Speaker B: And it was both an international and a work flight.
We're sprinting.
[00:58:06] Speaker A: And we made it.
[00:58:07] Speaker B: We made it. We had a ball the gate for us. And it was so much fun.
[00:58:10] Speaker A: We had so much fun.
[00:58:11] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:58:12] Speaker A: And I even got to foam roll once we got to Paris.
[00:58:14] Speaker B: Exactly. That was where that was from.
[00:58:17] Speaker A: Oh, God. That's why I was doing that. I was like, o, let's make sure we're rolled out.
[00:58:22] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:58:23] Speaker A: Thank you for this recap. I always love these episodes. I've been looking forward to this all day.
[00:58:27] Speaker B: Yeah, me too.
[00:58:27] Speaker A: I'm so glad you came prepared.
And I'm so glad Riz is more.
[00:58:35] Speaker B: Settled.
[00:58:35] Speaker A: Whatever. Yep. So glad you came prepared. So glad that we do this annually. I can't wait till next year's. Maybe it'll be from our new location next year.
[00:58:43] Speaker B: I would love that.
[00:58:45] Speaker A: Okay. Exciting. Thanks for being here. Listen.
What a tough night for me in the words. Dang it.
So glad that you're here. So hopeful that you've enjoyed five years of words that move me. That's wild to say out loud.
[00:59:02] Speaker B: Yep.
[00:59:03] Speaker A: I'm tremendously proud. I love doing this. And I love doing this with you. You're the greatest team member ever.
You are so great, in fact, that I would set up a retirement fund for you. Thank you.
[00:59:15] Speaker B: Appreciate it.
[00:59:15] Speaker A: You're welcome. Just don't ask me to match your. What you put into it.
[00:59:19] Speaker B: That's fine.
[00:59:19] Speaker A: You could if you wanted to. It would be legal if you made that request. I won't do that.
[00:59:23] Speaker B: I already have my own.
[00:59:24] Speaker A: Thanks. California. That's what I'm saying. It seems kind of lame.
