Speaker 0 00:00:00 Welcome to Words That Move Me, the podcast where movers and shakers like you get the information and inspiration you need to navigate your creative career with clarity and confidence. I am your host Dana Wilson. And I move people. I am all about the tools and techniques that empower tomorrow's leaders to make the work of their dreams and live a full life while doing it. So whether you're new to the game or transitioning to your next echelon of greatness, you're in the right place. Welcome Movers and Shakers. This is words that move me. I'm Dana, and this is Speaker 1 00:00:38 Riley Higgins. Holy Speaker 0 00:00:40 Arron's. Wow. Riley Higgins is the executive editor here at Words That Move Me. <laugh>, um, executive editor. I, I combined two titles. Mm-hmm. <affirmative> dang it, executive assistant and editor. Um, she is a super chief mega boss and I'm so stoked to be wrapping up 2022 with her. We did this last year. We had so much fun. Speaker 1 00:01:04 So much fun. And I'll take executive editor as well, you know, executive Speaker 0 00:01:08 Editor. You, you edit with authority, my friend. Yes. Thank you. Riley and I are here to do a little recap. We have prepared some questions for each other and, uh, we're gonna have a good old conversation, uh, but first Speaker 1 00:01:21 Mm-hmm. Speaker 0 00:01:22 <affirmative>, we're gonna do wins. Oh, yay. You know, we're gonna do wins. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Um, do you wanna start? Speaker 1 00:01:26 Do I wanna start? Speaker 0 00:01:27 Would you like to start? Speaker 1 00:01:29 I will start. Thank you. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Um, I think that my win is that I am going home in a few days. Wow. To visit family for Christmas, holiday, family time, <laugh>, um, whatever that is. And I am really excited to see mom, dad's sister. Yes. As well as pugs as always. Pugs is, might be even a little bit higher than family. Wow. Speaker 0 00:02:00 Sometimes ranking, higher ranking sometimes. Speaker 1 00:02:02 I just really, I heard it's cold where I'm going and there might be some cuddle times that I'm really excited for. Speaker 0 00:02:09 For the record. Leigh's going to Arizona. Speaker 1 00:02:13 <laugh>. My mom told me it was cold today. She told me that it's been cold, so, Speaker 0 00:02:17 And as, as people from Colorado, she knows what she's talking about. Exactly. But I think cold Arizona relative to actual cold is still, I think you're gonna be fine. I hope you do get good pug puddles call. Thank you. Pu puddles. Speaker 1 00:02:31 Oh, well, I should, that's a good Speaker 0 00:02:33 One. That's a pretty good one. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Um, okay. That is a good win. Thank you for sharing. You're welcome. My win today is that after months of auditioning and, uh, weeks and weeks of planning, I finally began, and by eye, I mean another company mm-hmm. <affirmative>, um, began painting my condo, woo. Wall to wall crisp brown. Yes. Every, even ceilings actually work. Um, that is, is a big job. And it is starting today. And I'm celebrating that as a win because this morning got off to a bit of a rocky start. My team was supposed to arrive at seven and at seven 30, crickets. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Um, and so I emailed my project manager who I'd been in touch with, and he didn't respond, but eventually somebody showed up at my door, uh, without like a logo t-shirt, like no branded anything. And they were like, Hey, I'm here for the painting job. Speaker 0 00:03:34 And I was like, oh, this doesn't feel right. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Um, because when I tell you that the dollar amount on this quote is professional mm-hmm. <affirmative>, the quantity of dollars is professional in a really expected, you know mm-hmm. <affirmative> on time at the minimum fair logo on the t-shirt isn't required, but it kind of helps calm the nerves after the 30 minute waiting period. Anyways. Yes. I put on my best project manager pants. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, I asked good questions. Mm-hmm. <affirmative> super shout out to how to ask good questions. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, that's a great episode. I asked questions that revealed how much I know, for example, start work time was seven project manager's. Name is this, we have decided that this mm-hmm. <affirmative>, I was under the, uh, impression that paint would be already purchased mm-hmm. <affirmative>. And when I tell you guy showed up with a bucket, not even paint in it. Oh. So, um, it was clear to me that something was amiss mm-hmm. <affirmative>, uh, and we figured that out. Apparently there was trouble with the scheduling software. Oh, Speaker 0 00:04:32 Nice. And once we got that cleared up, the team got up on its feet and did a wonderful job. And I'm very excited for the next four days of Yes. That hopefully minus the scheduling problems. Correct. Um, so I'm happy for treating professional people with kindness and understanding without being completely, uh, walked over, walked over too flexible, like hit, disguising my disappointment. Totally. Um, so that felt good. Okay. Now it's your turn. Listener, jump in the booth with us. Tell, tell a friend whoever's sitting or standing next to you, or you could text someone, tell someone right now what is going well in your world. Speaker 1 00:05:30 Can I ask you a question? Oh, yeah. What, um, do your professional pants look like that you put on? Speaker 0 00:05:36 Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. They're pinstriped. Mm. Wide leg. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, high waist Speaker 1 00:05:41 <laugh> always high wasted. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Speaker 0 00:05:46 Okay. Congratulations. Great job you guys. I'm so glad that you are winning. Please keep it up. Um, I know that there is, uh, a lot going on this holiday season in the dance community in the world. Mm-hmm. <affirmative> in the global community. Um, celebrate the wins, y'all be kind to yourself, be kind to other people and let's get into it. Speaker 1 00:06:10 Sweet. Speaker 0 00:06:11 I, oh, before we get into it, actually context to what is going on right now. So I apparently have turned into Ron Burgundy when it comes to Google Calendar. I am tethered to the Google Calendar. If it is not on the Google calendar, I don't know it exists. If it is on the Google calendar, I still might not look at <laugh>. No. I think for the most part I honor the calendar and I really thought that Riley and I were supposed to record this episode tonight, which we are. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, because here it is tonight. Um, but she really thought that we were supposed to record this episode tomorrow night, which is Tuesday. And so we were talking, we were texting about something else today at around four 15, I got my last message from her and I thought she was supposed to be here at four 30 mm-hmm. <affirmative> Speaker 0 00:07:05 Then five 15 came around and I was like, this is not like ri mm-hmm. <affirmative> now. I know. We didn't really, I was like, maybe if the painters are gone Yeah. Then you can come. So I texted her, I was like, the painters are gone. What is your eta Uhhuh <affirmative>, nothing. And then I was like, question mark, text. And then still nothing. And then I went over to your house because did, it's around the corner mm-hmm. <affirmative>. And I was really glad to see that your car was there. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. And I looked into your window like a real creeper <laugh>. And I was so glad to see that there was no sign of distress. Nope. Or a break-in. Nope. I knocked a couple times. Crickets. You know what I did? I slid your dumpster aside and I weezled my way in the alleyway between, so I could look in your bedroom window. Speaker 0 00:07:47 Super creeper. Um, good to know. I should look. And it was just blind and it was just dark in there. But I listened for a while. I didn't hear any crying or whimpering or wheezing. I was just like, Riley must have take, tried to take a power nap and hit fell asleep. Mind you, during this whole debacle, I had texted your roommate. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, Courtney Darlington, who was in a movie. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. She stepped out of said movie. Yes, she did. And let me tell you what, now I have ruined two people's nights with my one misunderstanding of the schedule. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, which I made up for the record Right. In a text yesterday. Yes. It was like, let's do that on Tuesday. Yep. But it didn't go on the calendar. No Speaker 1 00:08:27 It didn't. Speaker 0 00:08:28 No it didn't. And guess what's not on the calendar today either This Right. But I really thought, because my last text was like four 30 after the painters are gone, and then guess what? The painters left. I was like, it's four 30 if the moment. Right. I, that was a big fumble and I really apologize. That's okay. Thanks for being on your toes and game to make this happen. Yeah. Happy Speaker 1 00:08:49 To. It was a fun wake up. I usually set alarms when I take naps. And today I was like, let's see where the, uh, waves take me. Oh my God. And it was a long nap. Long nap. Huh? A long nap. Uh, felt really good. And I'm rested and ready to talk now, so, okay. Yeah. Speaker 0 00:09:08 When you say fun wake up, do you mean panic? Like, did you sweat when you saw that you had two missed calls from me and six text Speaker 1 00:09:16 Messages? No, I was, I was laughing cuz I was like, why I, we didn't have anything today. So it was, it was not panic, it was confusion. Cause I was like, we are not supposed to meet today. And then also calls from my roommate and I was like, did I say I was supposed to be somewhere, somewhere? Did I, I think it was like groggy confusion. Oh man. Coming through. Speaker 0 00:09:38 Well, booya you for being game to make it happen. Always. I think this is right. Yeah. Feels right. Yeah. Speaker 1 00:09:45 This is when we were supposed to do Speaker 0 00:09:47 It. You're, you're like, you know mm-hmm. <affirmative>, you got the wake up sweats happening. Yes. You're prepared. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. I set up my, um, little microphone to be in, oh, what's it called? Not cardio. The other one in, in like two person mode. Uhhuh. So we're gonna sound good. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, you got your pop filter? I got my questions. Are you ready? Let's do it. Speaker 1 00:10:06 I am ready. Speaker 0 00:10:07 Okay. Do you start or do I start? Speaker 1 00:10:09 Um, can I start? Yes, please. Because I think it'd be a good starting question. Oh, work. Say it. So you have had so many wonderful guests ah, introduce themselves over the years. Speaker 0 00:10:20 Oh Speaker 1 00:10:21 Hell. And so I, they would Speaker 0 00:10:23 Love Higgins if Speaker 1 00:10:25 You could introduce yourself, you know, as you are now. I Speaker 0 00:10:28 Heads everybody up to everybody knows it's coming. You didn't gimme a heads Speaker 1 00:10:32 Up. Well, I didn't know this was coming tonight, so I That's facts. That's good. Play. Play. I could, I could let this Speaker 0 00:10:38 Happen. Okay. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Yes. Introduce myself as I am now. Mm-hmm. Speaker 1 00:10:42 <affirmative> Speaker 0 00:10:43 Man. I've been looking at my website a lot lately. Okay. <laugh>. So the first thing that comes to my mind mm-hmm. <affirmative> is I am Dana. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, Speaker 0 00:10:54 I am a mover. Mm-hmm. I move people both physically and otherwise. As I move, I move bodies in space and I move minds through the ups, downs, ins, outs, twists, and turns of creative life. Um, when I say I am a mover of people, that's one thing, but I also am a mover in my body and I am vowing to honor that part of me more. So I'll tell you that I am a mover and I am becoming a more physical being word. And if that scares you to hear my friends, I am sorry. But it's, I, I have found myself feeling kind of paper thin in my body lately. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, call it the season, call it a complete facelift of the words that move me. Community, which requires a lot of hours. Mm-hmm. <affirmative> in the backend of words that move me.com. Um, and on FaceTime with my designer developer Yes. Who's trying so hard to help me, help myself. But, um, I have felt not as, uh, strong in my physical body, but very well guided and supported mm-hmm. <affirmative> mentally and emotionally. Uh, so yes, I am a mover and I'm vowing to become more mobilized. Yes. That is my, my vow to you, the listener to you Ri Higgins and to myself. Lovely. Thank you. Okay. You know that's coming right back at you though. Oh, Speaker 1 00:12:31 Fabulous. Speaker 0 00:12:31 I basically wrote all of my questions under the assumption that I would also have to answer Speaker 1 00:12:36 Them. Yeah, same. Go, same. Hit me. Okay. Wonderful. Hello. Lovely listeners that I usually am one of. I am Riley Higgins. I am also a mover, creative lover, passionate person on time for the most Speaker 0 00:12:54 Part, hence my panic. Speaker 1 00:12:57 <laugh> on time. Um, editor, choreographer, dancer, and just Speaker 0 00:13:07 Uhoh. Speaker 1 00:13:08 Oh man. Not just Uhuh. I'm not barely anything. No ma'am. I'm full of so much. Yes. And I am still exploring what that is. And happy to Speaker 0 00:13:17 Word. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. She's a slasher. Y'all, she, I'm a slasher. She got multi slashes. Yes. Super hyphenate. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Um, good. One way to start. That was great. Thank Speaker 1 00:13:25 You. Speaker 0 00:13:26 Um, okay. I have a question for you. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, you can't really turn this one on me. Well, you could, oh. Falling. Just falling for no reason. Great. I have a question. Okay. Do you plan on making a sizzle reel Out of my outtakes and my outtakes? I mean, burps, farts and f-bombs. <laugh>. I was just wondering if you had a folder on your desktop for that. I Speaker 1 00:13:49 Be honest, I do have a folder. I knew it. I, I have, I have something called, um, fun Times with Dana. Oh. It's in the, it's a little folder. Okay. <laugh> and <laugh>. I, this sometimes doesn't feel like a job cuz it feels like I'm just listening to you talk to me because it's like you speak your thesis and it's such a powerful moment. And then it's like, it's like <unk> That wasn't it. Okay. Nevermind. Sorry. Go back. And I was like, that was great. I don't that was exactly it. Or you stop mid-sentence and I was like, no, keep the sentences going. Speaker 0 00:14:25 Hey, that's the same, same is true with self tapes. Yeah. I have watched myself free styling, like doing the thing and then like, I stop and I roll my eyes at myself, Uhhuh. And then as I'm editing it together, I'm like, oh my God. Right. That was quite all right. That was quite fine. Why you ruined it. You only need just keep five more seconds. Speaker 1 00:14:44 Keep Speaker 0 00:14:44 Going. Hysterical. Yeah. Uh, okay. Just keep going. Yeah, that's a good note. Speaker 1 00:14:47 Thank you. Um, but I do have a real, some of it I feel like you don't want other people to hear, other people to hear. Um, but I do have it available to put together if you have ever wanted that. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Wow. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. It's funny. It's good. I Speaker 0 00:15:07 Mean, talk about a Christmas present. You did just gimme a really nice gift. I did. Um, ri just gifted me a gift. Um, that's a gift in and of itself. Uh, it is a book about fundraising. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, it's a, it's a book about gifts, <laugh>. Um, and I'm super stoked about it. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, thank you. You're full of gifts. I will want to hear that someday. <affirmative>, maybe save it for like a big birthday or something. Okay. Speaker 1 00:15:30 Like Speaker 0 00:15:30 40 or something. Speaker 1 00:15:31 Great. Okay. You got Speaker 0 00:15:33 It. Um, sweet. Now you go. Okay. Speaker 1 00:15:36 So I would love to know, since we've already done wins mm-hmm. <affirmative>, and I love that your win is your house, but I would love to also know what your biggest win this year was. Ah, Speaker 0 00:15:48 Wow. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Yikes. Speaker 1 00:15:51 Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, you had so many of them. I I Speaker 0 00:15:52 Had so many wins. Speaker 1 00:15:54 51. We did 51 episodes. So you had 51 wins. Speaker 0 00:15:57 And I have to like, edit myself down to keeping it one to two. That's true. That there's multiple wins. You know me, I always do multiple wins. <laugh>. Um, I think my biggest win is finding a semblance, uh, not a, not a semblance. I found the practice of balance this year. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, I had a lot going on in my personal life. I had a lot going on in my professional life. Both a lot of intensity mm-hmm. <affirmative> and a lot of space. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, and I'm gonna be real y'all to navigate periods of not being working is as hard or harder as navigating periods of work where you have work on top of work and you're struggling with burnout and you're struggling with blah, blah, blah. The space is real. And I had both this year, I had really intense, busy times. I had really open space mm-hmm. <affirmative> and I had a really eventful personal transition this year. So I think my biggest win is trying Speaker 1 00:17:07 Mm, Speaker 0 00:17:09 Failing. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, making micro adjustments and finding it. I do believe I achieved balance for like a lot of this year. Mm-hmm. Not all, not at all times was I completely balanced <laugh>, but I had several days where I took pause and I was like, wow, is this what a balanced life feels like? Mm-hmm. Because I think this is it. Speaker 1 00:17:32 Yeah. Speaker 0 00:17:33 And I, and when I say balanced, I don't necessarily mean good, I don't mean like on top of it, even though it does feel real good to be on the leg, like on that, on that rail on the leg mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Um, but I meant like 50 50 balanced and on it, like on it. Right. On it as in like Totally. Okay. Speaker 1 00:17:52 Well I think that's beautiful that even finding balance on a few days is such a big win. Yeah. Um, I had, I had this talk the other day. I was like, why can I like physically balance? Like why when I step onto my leg when I'm not in a class, can I like Speaker 0 00:18:09 Oh, interesting. Speaker 1 00:18:09 Fully hold a balance. But when I'm at like a bar and I let go, like I can't do it. Speaker 0 00:18:14 What do you think the answer Speaker 1 00:18:16 Is? I think it's my thoughts. I think my thoughts at the bar is that it's hard Uhhuh <affirmative> and I have to like, I have to like work to get it versus I'm not thinking about it, but my body naturally knows how to do it. Cool. Speaker 0 00:18:27 So Speaker 1 00:18:28 If I naturally can let myself do it when I'm trying to do it mm-hmm. Speaker 0 00:18:32 <affirmative>, Speaker 1 00:18:33 Possibly it'll be more successful. But I haven't fully tried that theory out yet. Yes ma'am. Speaker 0 00:18:39 Yep. Love Speaker 1 00:18:40 That. Um, that's not my biggest win. Okay. But <laugh> uh, biggest win I would say is, I have two. Is that okay? Speaker 0 00:18:49 You know it. Speaker 1 00:18:50 Okay, great. Um, moving into my apartment with lovely, lovely roommate Courtney Darlington has been super shout out for such a big win, having such a great space to always relax and come home to. Um, and second one is getting signed this year, which I'm really excited. Um, Speaker 0 00:19:09 Hey, Claires clear talent group. Speaker 1 00:19:11 High and clear talent. Speaker 0 00:19:12 Yay. Yes. Big fan of that Speaker 1 00:19:14 For you. Yeah, me too. Speaker 0 00:19:16 Yay. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Yeah. That is a big win. That was on your goals list for a year, huh? Yeah. What were the actions that you did to achieve it? I think that's a goal that a lot of listeners probably have. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. And one of the things that we coach on a lot internally within com mm-hmm. <affirmative> is yes. I mean, goal setting, the, like the process that we work through in words that move me is a is an episode unto itself. Right. So I, we won't talk that through entirely, but it's important for people who have been following the podcast for a while who know mm-hmm. <affirmative> that I Yes, it is true. Your actions are directly linked to your results. Totally. So it was your actions that helped get you an agent Yeah. But you had to feel a certain way Yeah. To do those things and you had to think a certain way to feel that certain way. Totally. So I would love to hear what you did and what it was that you were thinking and feeling that helped you do it. Speaker 1 00:20:07 Um, a big thought that helped me was that I've been kind of moving through this whole year is be, be scared and do it anyways. Mm-hmm. <affirmative> in, uh, anywhere in like a summed up way is no feeling is gonna stop me from doing it. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, like I can feel the feeling and still do the action mm-hmm. <affirmative> because I don't want fear to be the thing that doesn't let me do what I wanna do. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Um, so it was be scared and do it anyway. It was a lot about, um, finding the people who were down to help me get there. Mm-hmm. <affirmative> you, I asked some other people to submit me and, um, also just finding out the best way that I wanted to represent myself. So I think it started from a place of how do I represent myself? How do I build the materials that best represent me? Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. And then once I had those together, um, it was just about finding the people who are down to help mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Speaker 0 00:21:00 Yeah. And being willing to feel embarrassed. Totally. Or like, uh, rejected. Rejected. Yeah. All, all of our favorites. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Love that. Good job. Thank you. Um, okay. I'm gonna, I'm gonna boot scoot right along. What is your favorite quote to come from this season? Ooh. Could you recall it? Speaker 1 00:21:19 I could. I could. It does come from Mandy Moore's episode. Speaker 0 00:21:22 Yes. We've talked about this. It does it. Speaker 1 00:21:25 Um, Speaker 0 00:21:26 Your lack of planning is not my problem. Right? Speaker 1 00:21:29 Yeah. Lack of planning or not my emergency does not mean emergency for me. Yes. And that has really helped me because I do love to help people mm-hmm. <affirmative> and I love to jump into action mm-hmm. <affirmative>, but sometimes I'm not ready to jump into action mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Um, so I really appreciated hearing that, especially from someone who is so, uh, has done such great work and is like built herself up there. Mm-hmm. Speaker 0 00:21:53 <affirmative>. Yeah. I agree. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, that is such a good one. And I think you, you celebrated another win kind of on that same tip a little while later. Somebody asked you over Thanksgiving break to edit a video mm-hmm. <affirmative> and it was last minute. They needed it tomorrow. Right. And so you charged them mm-hmm. <affirmative> last minute Get it tomorrow fee. Totally. And they agreed. Yes. They, they did. I think, yeah. The whole speaking to the idea of emergencies, like this is an emergency. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Okay. I will respond to your emergency and you will charge the, I will charge you the emergency fee. Absolutely. Um, that's fun. I'm so glad that you, that you won and that's a great, uh, great, great, great quote, Speaker 1 00:22:31 Great quote quote. What about you? Speaker 0 00:22:33 Um, I, I really love that. I loved one that stands out to me right now probably just cuz it's a fresh listen. Mm-hmm. <affirmative> is Gary m Hoff's tool that he uses most often. He talks about meeting people where they're at, um, in a conversation. He could sit down and talk to anyone and try to see the world through their eyes. I think it makes him a fabulous teacher. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, but I think it makes him an even better artist. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, I think having a, a pointed perspective of the world is really important as an artist, but having a multi-directional point of view mm-hmm. <affirmative> being able to look at it from different angles, that is something else. Um, I've been thinking about that a lot lately. So yeah. That one stands out. Speaker 1 00:23:22 Nice. Mm-hmm. <affirmative> lovely. A great episode by Speaker 0 00:23:24 The way too. Oh my gosh. Top to bottom sound bites. Speaker 1 00:23:27 So good. Yeah. I mean, I know I'm forgetting a million that I love and have written down for sure. Cause they're, as the Instagram knows as many quotable quotes, but Yes. Yes. Um, okay. Another one a little bit more off the cuff too. Yeah. Yeah. Sorry I didn't prep you for this one, but I think of it, I'm excited Speaker 0 00:23:43 To hear what you saying. Oh, oh, no, good. Okay. Speaker 1 00:23:45 So I want to revisit a topic, a big topic this year mm-hmm. <affirmative> that got a lot of feedback. Okay. You see where you're at now. Okay. With ambition. Speaker 0 00:23:53 Oh yeah. Speaker 1 00:23:54 Have you found your original thought to still be true? Which was my hypothesis is that when we release ambition, we float into something that might even be better than progress. Yes. And have you been able to use that this year? Is that something you want to attach to more? Any updates on that topic? Yeah. Speaker 0 00:24:15 Oh man, that is, thanks for pulling that back. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, man, that sounds so smart. <laugh>. I do still agree with that hypothesis and I am releasing every single day more than the last, the idea, the very American idea that progress is paramount and that if you aren't getting better, what are you doing? And if you aren't selling more and reaching more people and doing more and getting stronger, getting better, getting happier, getting richer, getting more married and more kids and more, oh my god, it's exhausting. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Um, so yeah, I do think that the absence of ambition can land you with something better than progress. But I also think the more important part, rather than having it or not having it, is being at the control center of it. Mm-hmm. <affirmative> and see and seeing, you know, based on my desired results, which really might be more money, right. So that I can start my own convention or so that I can move into a city where there's more opportunity for the type of work I wanna do. Mm-hmm. <affirmative> or, or, or whatever. If that really is your desired result, in this case of having more money, ambition would be very useful. Speaker 1 00:25:38 Right. Speaker 0 00:25:39 So as a, as a tool. And I do think emotions can be used that way. Ambition would be great. Mm-hmm. Speaker 1 00:25:45 <affirmative>, Speaker 0 00:25:47 Um, but others could be as well. Mm-hmm. Speaker 0 00:25:51 <affirmative> like focus or grit or presence. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Um, so I think yeah. More Thanks for bringing that up is a really good question. That's a, you should have a podcast. Oh, thank you <laugh>. Um, yeah, I do still agree with that initial statement, but I, I find that it's not my nature mm-hmm. <affirmative> to be absent from it. Right. Um, I'm definitely a product of my culture, my family, my mm-hmm. <affirmative>, you know, my upbringing said, you know, improve Yeah. Better. It's really deeply a part of who I am. Cool. And I, for the most part enjoy the life of being an ambitious person. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, but it, yeah. That is worth investigating. I would love to hear what, what other people think about that. Speaker 1 00:26:38 Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Cool. Speaker 0 00:26:40 Great. Yay. Good one. Thank you. Um, alright. I guess this is kind of similar to your question about biggest win. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, is there a most outstanding moment that doesn't necessarily mean it was great, maybe it was heinous. Is there, uh, a most outstanding moment from the season, most Speaker 1 00:27:00 Outstanding moment from the season? <laugh> man? Oh, well something that is Wait, it has to be can. It's good, bad. What's the, Speaker 0 00:27:16 Any, any, any outstanding, Speaker 1 00:27:20 Outstanding I will say from the season even it's podcast adjacent. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, um, is the eight counts words that move me movie premiere. Speaker 0 00:27:31 That was outstanding. Yes, Speaker 1 00:27:34 It was. You made a freaking movie this Speaker 0 00:27:36 Year. We made a movie this year and we had a premiere. Yeah. Even though we had never had a premiere before mm-hmm. <affirmative>. That is something cool I talk about on the podcast a lot. If you wanna do things that you've never done before, you're gonna have to think thoughts that you've never thought before. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. And one of those thoughts for me in this case was throwing a screening is easy. Yeah. <laugh>, I had to tell myself like, this is something I can totally do. Right. And then when I came upon parts of it that were hard mm-hmm. <affirmative>, I raged Speaker 1 00:28:04 Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Yeah. Speaker 0 00:28:05 And then I learned mm-hmm. <affirmative> and now I know how to hold screenings. Yeah. And our next one is gonna be even better. Yes. And it will cost me less money cuz I will have to pay less emergency fees cuz I will have absolutely my shit together. Absolutely. Um, yeah, the eight counts movie premiere was absolutely outstanding. We should link to the, it's been a while since we talked about eight counts. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, eight counts are the guiding principles of the move words that move me. Society, I just called it society, i secret society. It feels, you know, it feels right and not so Speaker 1 00:28:37 Secret Speaker 0 00:28:37 Society. Yeah. Very public uhhuh actually most of us stands out in the world. Yes. Um, on our phones. <laugh>, um, very public society of movers and shakers. Um, and this project is a collective effort. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, um, I directed, wrote and collected clips I edited and ri you also helped me capture mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Um, and I think I'm proud of it. I know that I'm proud of it. I, I think that it will live on and I will continue to be proud of it mm-hmm. <affirmative>, but the event itself is also something to be proud of. Just in, in Yeah. Face value. We did something we had never done. Totally. And it was Speaker 1 00:29:23 Awesome. And being able to hear feedback and so many people saying, wow, we never get to see this kind of dance on a big screen. Mm-hmm. <affirmative> like this. It's in individual phones, it's on computers Yeah. In my room. And like also Speaker 0 00:29:36 People like small screening areas, right. Like dance festivals usually kind of smaller venues. Oh, we went big. Yeah. Speaker 1 00:29:42 Oh yeah. Big and also like sharing the principles with people who haven't heard them before and the impact of that. Totally. Yeah. Because I'm, I'm around it, uh, quite often <laugh> and I sometimes Speaker 0 00:29:53 Around and in it <laugh> around Speaker 1 00:29:55 And in it's Speaker 0 00:29:55 Emerged. Speaker 1 00:29:56 Um, and it's cool to see the light bulbs pop off, um, when they haven't seen it before. Speaker 0 00:30:01 Totally. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Yeah. Great point. Yeah. Um, I'm gonna go counter to that lovely. The most outstanding moment for me when I ask this question. Get ready for it. Oh no. <laugh>. Yo. It's funny, I'm negative Nancy tonight. No. Most outstanding moment. Don't feel hurt. I think it's not your fault. Okay. Okay. Okay. Oh my gosh. Um, what's the word I'm looking for? Submitting is the word I was looking for. Oh. Submitting to the Signal Awards because it is my fault. The signal. It's not your fault, dude. Okay. The Signal Awards are a first time ever podcast awards slash scammy mc scam <laugh> and I raised a lot of money so that we could enter the podcast for these awards. And as we were doing that, my husband was like, dude, just create your own awards. This is bogus. Mm-hmm. <affirmative> this, they're just doing it to make money. Speaker 0 00:30:58 You have to pay how much to sum submit in how many categories. Okay. Right. Anyways, I was like, no, this is great. I'm getting behind my podcast right now. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, my community is getting behind us. We had fundraisers, we did it, we did the thing. And when I tell you I am still receiving emails from them seriously that say we've started, we've begun judging. Hmm. That shit's on auto. Right. And they have already announced their finalists. Uhhuh <affirmative> Late mind you, <laugh>. Um, and their finalists are all like Apple top 10 podcasts. Yes. Like fully the stuff that you would expect. Speaker 1 00:31:34 Your front page just open Apple Podcasts, Speaker 0 00:31:36 Literally Apple, look at it. Apple Podcast front pages. Who won the single awards? Um, not us, but I'm not, this is an outstanding because it didn't work out the way I expected it to. Mm-hmm. <affirmative> because honestly I did. I thought we had a chance to win. I think what we make is great. Pat Self on back, <laugh>. Um, but what was outstanding about it to me was that conversation with Daniel in which there is a lot of truth. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, that was very inspiring. What's different about the Signal Awards than us? Like they had a q and A on Instagram live and Riley and I showed up and we were the only people there. Yep. <laugh>. Yep. Yep. We should have known <laugh>. Um, anyways, all that to say, it was a moment where we reached out, out into this world, let's be real. Riley and I are both full-time dancing people. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, we are not full-time podcast people, although it is at least fully part-time. <laugh>, very Speaker 1 00:32:32 Minute strong, strong part-time strong, Speaker 0 00:32:34 Strong part-time, strong, full part-time. Right. <laugh>. Um, but we're not podcast people. So when she reached out into the podcast world, which is cool, I'm so glad that you did that. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, you're like, let's investigate the space that we are undeniably in <laugh>. And she found this thing and I was like, rock on. Let's reach new people and be a part of this community for real. And then it turns out that that's not Speaker 1 00:32:56 Nope. That wasn't their Speaker 0 00:32:58 Mission wasn't the one. Nope. But it stands out as being like a big decision mm-hmm. <affirmative> that we rallied around mm-hmm. <affirmative> and got behind and sparked a lot of interesting conversation. Mm-hmm. <affirmative> and congrats to all the winners of the Signal Awards. <laugh>, sorry. Good job. Could you hear the chip on my shoulder? Speaker 1 00:33:16 Well, you know, they're listening, right? They listen to our podcast because they're learning so much from us. Speaker 0 00:33:22 Oh. You know what was really a win about that? Hmm. The Hidden Win. Mm-hmm. <affirmative> is that I had to choose which episodes to submit. Yeah. So I got to go back and listen. Ugh. And here's why. That's a win. It was hard. It was hard to ch this is me patting myself on the back together. The thing like from Jessica Castro to Martha Nichols Hawk, Gary Imhoff, my teacher, freaking popping Pete. Wow. Some of my heroes. A really, really great year of guests and I genuinely couldn't decide what to put forward because all of them were so great. Oh. Uh, there's no room in the podcast Booth <laugh> for me and Ri and my cup bubbles <laugh>. So I'm not doing my cup bubbles right now. <laugh>. Um, but anyways, yeah, that really stands out to me. Nice. Speaker 1 00:34:09 That's Speaker 0 00:34:10 Pretty cool. Um, that was all I had on my list. Ri what else you got? Speaker 1 00:34:15 Oh, are you ready? Speaker 0 00:34:16 Yeah. Is this closing it out? Closing this out? This is closing out. We didn't out really decide on a number of questions I guess, but it feels, it feels kind of balanced. Speaker 1 00:34:22 Yeah. Um, so I was gonna do a fund round of questions. Speaker 0 00:34:29 Fund fund. Mm. Yes. Speaker 1 00:34:32 Sorry. I don't talk very often on the podcast. I'm not, I don't enunciate Speaker 0 00:34:36 The way we should call it a fund round. And we should round to pay for every question we don't answer within five seconds or something. Is this a, is this a burnout? Is it a burnout? Yeah. Well then we gotta go fast. Speaker 1 00:34:45 Let's go. Okay. Okay. Favorite dance step? Speaker 0 00:34:48 We're on drum. Okay. Speaker 1 00:34:49 Desert Island song pick one. Speaker 0 00:34:53 Hmm. Speaker 1 00:34:54 2, 3, 4. Speaker 0 00:34:56 Superstition. Stevie Wonder work. It's my first, it's the first thing my brain offered me. <laugh>. So good. Speaker 1 00:35:14 <laugh>. Last one. Uhhuh <affirmative>. One person who you would love to have a private dance party with. Speaker 0 00:35:19 Oh my God. Speaker 1 00:35:22 5, 4, 3, 2. I only get five seconds. <laugh>. Oh <laugh>. Speaker 0 00:35:28 Does that mean I have to party alone? Speaker 1 00:35:30 No, it just means you have to baby. Speaker 0 00:35:32 Oh. Speaker 0 00:35:35 My first thought was James Brown work. Um, wow. And then I, I didn't say it cuz I was like, he would scold me <laugh> and find me for being offbeat. I do love to push the pocket <laugh> pretty much. I have watched myself on video a few times. I'm been like, Dana, that's late. Like you're late. Obviously late, but I feel so deeply in the pocket. Mm-hmm. <affirmative> <laugh>. Um, uh, it's funny that, it's funny that they aren't Oh, you know who it actually is. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. This is gonna maybe make somebody cry. Probably my mom. Oh my Yaya but my age. Oh wow. Oh cool. So I got my mom. Thank you. Podcast guest Jason Bonner who works with Josh Groin, who my mom along with every other woman in her age bracket is obsessed with Josh Groin. Rightfully so. Oh. Also I am obsessed with Josh Groin. Yes, we are. Great job Jamal. Fantastic work. Uh, will be Bell. Great job. Christopher Scott. Incredible job. I I mean, I am not saying who did what cuz right now I'm not remembering the the title scroll, but do a little digging into the team that was responsible for that and go watch it. Go enjoy. Mm-hmm. <affirmative> big fan. The only thing I was saying is like, Josh can't shine in that suit, man. He can't shine in there. It's diming his shine. <laugh>. He's wearing a massive, he's puppet. He's not even wearing. He's puppeting. He couldn't move his arms. He couldn't do it. No. Anyways, he sounded phenomenal. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, he looked great. Mm-hmm. <affirmative> and not a big fan of his song. Speaker 0 00:37:27 The song, the song. We don't No, we didn't like the song. No. We're not a big fan of the song, but big fan of everything else. Anyways, I got my mom and my yaya thanks to Jason Bonner tickets to see Josh Groin at Red Rocks in Colorado. And my mom sent me videos of my, at the time, 70 plus like, oh no, 80 plus year old. Um, so yeah, I would've loved to go out dancing with my Yaya at my age, which by the way, when my Yaya was my age, she already had 11 kids. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Uh, get up, <laugh>, get up. And it was so much fun. I really, all of those, those were great, but I'm not gonna lie, all of them were great. Yes. I get in here every week you guys, and like, I'm excited about this episode and I'm not bullshitting you. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, part of that is because I'm easily excitable, <laugh>, simple mind, simple pleasures, <laugh>. But part of that is that I, I, I, again, here I am tooting my horn. I think they're good. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. So thank you for making them great, Riley. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, did you see how I shifted them from good to great. Yep. That was you though that did that. Yes. Um, and all of you for listening, thank you for showing up. Speaker 0 00:47:26 Thank you for, uh, getting down and downloading with us. Yeah. Please, if you do not have your episode set to download, that definitely helps our analytics. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, it helps other people find the podcast. So do reviews and ratings. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. So, um, maybe help us finish season four, three out. Yes. With a review and a rating would be so appreciated. Now get out there everybody and wait, what do we wanna tell 'em about our holiday sale that's still happening? Oh, Higgins. Yes. I would've sent this episode to her and she'd be like, Dana, jump in the booth. You forgot to talk about the holiday sale. <laugh>. So we are running a holiday sale all the way through December 31st, which means it ends January 1st, which means you can be at your New Year's Eve party and step away for a second and be like, sorry, the sale's about to end. Speaker 0 00:48:13 Right. I have to grab me a pop socket. Absolutely. Um, all merch and tools will be 20% off. So stickers, shoe bags for your funky ass shoes. Hell yeah. Um, pop sockets. Mm-hmm. <affirmative> that say, I am built for this. Yes, you are. Which I think is funny because Pop sockets are literally built for that. Um, but you are built for this, this creative life. You've got this, what else? T-shirts, words that move me. Stickers. I welcome your differences. T-shirts, um, yes, stickers. But let's talk about tools because I think these get overlooked a lot. Clearly after 150 plus episodes, there are a few topics that we circulate on that we come back to. We have created worksheet bundles mm-hmm. <affirmative> for certain topics like social media, money, March, um, what other Oh, fear deal. Dealing with fear is a big one. So take a look at the website, use the promo code W T M M holiday 2022, no spaces, all caps words that move me. Speaker 0 00:49:17 Oh, don't spell the words. W T M M holiday 2022. Mm-hmm. <affirmative> all the way through the 31st of December to cash in on 20% off. And <laugh> please cut that <laugh> and for those same 10 more days or whatever it is, math days. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, you can also get one free month of coaching when you invest in the year upfront. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, I know that sounds intense, but our base tier is only $5 a month. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. So we're talking $55 for an entire year of community. This is massive. Yes. I think that is by far our most popular tier, but in my opinion, our, our best value is our second tier, which is $45 a month. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, that includes everything that tier one gets plus two group coaching calls per month. One written coaching per month. So you don't even have to be at the call to get the value out of that coaching and which we are adding to both tiers, community calls and events. At least one time per month, we will meet up on some not necessarily coaching basis mm-hmm. <affirmative> to connect on an idea or on an activity. Um, and I'm really, really excited to be sharing more time, getting to know our community members better. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. But really what this is all about is navigating your career with clarity and confidence. The coaching is impeccable. Speaker 1 00:50:47 Yes. Speaker 0 00:50:48 Yes it is. This is the day where I pat myself on the back. I'm gonna have a Absolutely, I'm gonna have a red mark from all that padding. I mean, um, the growth that has happened, the wins that I have seen celebrated in this community, I ca like incredible. And it's not me that's doing it. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, I'm, I'm holding up a mirror. But it's the people, it's the people that are making the growth happen in their lives. Yes. And I'm thrilled by it. So mm-hmm. <affirmative>, come and get that coaching cash in on the annual membership for, uh, to get a one month free. Oh, I remember what I was gonna say. I know it seems like a lot upfront. However, there's now a feature on my website where you can pay in increments. So you can cash in on the one month for free by paying for the whole year. But you can pay for it in four installments. Yes you can. So come on all the way through. Um, yes. Thank you for that. Ri Higgins, oh my goodness. Holiday sale. Welcome ends. December 31st. Use the code W T M M holiday 2022 at checkout for 20% off. That applies to merch and tools that does not apply to coaching. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Okay. Enough sale talk. Enough holiday talk. Let's talk. <laugh>. Thank you. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, thank you again to all of my listeners. Thank you Ri for all of your hard work and for being here. You're Speaker 1 00:52:00 Welcome. Speaker 0 00:52:01 And a huge thank you for the people who are doing lots of hard work and are not standing here in the booth right now. Ariana, thank you so much for making sure our episodes get out there. And on the gram. Courtney, thank you so very much for helping in all of the ways that you help. Um, thank you Max Winnie for our tunes, Brie REITs because your design that you designed all those years ago is still ahead of its time. Oh yeah. Clean, like mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Mm. So good <laugh>. Um, again, the padding of the back Speaker 1 00:52:32 <laugh>. Wow. Speaker 0 00:52:33 Uh, thank you to the words that move me community, especially my day one ERs. Ri Higgins? Yeah. Do it. Speaker 1 00:52:55 Thank you so much for moving and grooving. I hope to see you in the whitham com and I hope you keep it funky. Yay. Yay. Keep it funky Speaker 1 00:53:14 <laugh>. Keep it funky. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, I said keep it funk, keep it funky. <laugh> Speaker 0 00:53:20 Over now keep it Speaker 1 00:53:21 Funky. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. See you next year. Speaker 0 00:53:25 Keep it fucking <laugh>. This podcast was produced by me with the help of many music by Max Winnie Logo and brand design by Bree reets.
